God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla

released on Dec 12, 2023

God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla is a free DLC that introduces a new mode that uses elements of the roguelite genre. Players progress through a series of trials set in procedurally generated levels, where they must choose a relic, shield, and rage ability for each trial run. After completing a challenge within a trial, players can opt for upgrading their weapon, relic, or stats, but these enhancements only apply to that specific trial run. Each run and the completion of specific gameplay challenges unlock permanent rewards. If a player dies, they restart the trial from the beginning. The downloadable content (DLC) also introduces new enemies, including new and familiar ones from the Greek era games like cyclopes and minotaurs.

pretty awesome expansion that bolsters a lot of the strengths and a lot of the weaknesses that Ragnarok had. its pretty fun to brutalize the enemies in this game especially since that little dickhead kid isnt around, but somehow even without the worst character around the writing still finds a way to flounder. GoW 2018 handled a "mature" story incredibly well but Ragnarok's big problem is that its idea of "maturity" is giving a bunch of verbose, namby-pamby speeches about how killing is bad. this game does nothing to address the impersonal, pathetic way the main game handles its characters but it does a lot to address the fact that the game is better when atreus isnt there so it gets full points. also, the fan service worked on me. also, getting to actually fight the God of War in this one was given just the right amount of grandiosity and grounding that it needed to. ultimately pretty cool expansion, looking forward to the next mainline title where kratos makes daisy chains with anubis or some shit

This is just Kratos in therapy and I am all for it. Just a great little DLC adventure and a perfect capstone to the main game that closes the loop on Kratos and his entire journey. This would honestly be the perfect place to retire him and let him live out the rest of his days in hope and peace.

Can't fix what is already broken

This DLC took me by surprise, this is my first ever experience playing a rogue like type of gameplay and even more so with God Of War. You can easily pour in so many hours to grind it’s so fun and the DLC itself is a love letter to all the veteran fans of the franchise.
