American McGee's Alice

released on Dec 06, 2000

Shortly after her second adventure, Through the Looking-Glass, Alice's house is burnt down by an accidental fire, killing her family and leaving her as the only survivor. As time progresses Alice loses touch with reality. She is institutionalized in Rutledge Asylum, where she is observed and treated by Dr. Heironymous Wilson. Alice's only possession in Rutledge is a stuffed rabbit. Ten years after Alice was committed to Rutledge, she finds herself sucked back into a Wonderland that has been twisted by her own broken mind. The White Rabbit summons Alice to aid a radically altered Wonderland, which became a twisted version of itself as it came under the horrible rule of the Queen of Hearts. The Cheshire Cat serves as Alice's companion throughout the game, frequently appearing to guide her with cryptic comments.

a perfect representation of everything that makes gaming epic -- reviewed in the only way that matters

An imaginative and absorbing 3D platformer that really feels like the Quake 3 conversion it practically is. I found the early 00's spin on the Alice In Wonderland surprisingly charming, and less puerile than a lot of 'subverted fairytale'-type stuff. Combat really shines, which is rare for a platformer of this stripe. Every level hits and the ambience is rich throughout. Really standout game, I loved it.

Ahora cada vez que vea a un peruano tendré TEPT.

Admittedly may be viewing it through the rose-tinted glasses as I am both a fan of Alice in Wonderland and the macabre, but I genuinely enjoyed playing this in the way it likely should be played: a puzzling platformer with a story that, while offering few surprises, is still an enjoyable (and relatable, for those who have been in as much despair as our Alice is here) one. Definitely some jank, but if you can appreciate its marvel for its time then I can overlook a lot of it when comparing to today's standards.

From what I played it was pretty good however I just lost motivation to play the game. It was dated but in a good way it has all the charm a piece of Alice in wonderland media should have the character design was very unique as well as the music however the platforming was a bit clunky the combat 100% screams a pc game as well I can't imagine playing this on controller. Maybe one day I'll replay this but for now I think it's time for me to mark this game as shelved.

A PC Gaming darling.
On my most recent playthrough I played on the PS3 version which sadly has its technical issues. Still very playable but I would prefer to play the PC version instead.

There is a slight sophistication that I really like about this game. Something I felt was lost in the 2011 sequel.

Here's hoping it gets on GOG some day.
