is a music video game developed by Konami's music video game division, Bemani, released in Japan on February 26, 1999. The objective is to perform songs using a controller with seven keys and a turntable. Its cabinet contains a widescreen monitor, massive speakers, and eight spotlights. Bemani later developed several updated versions of IIDX to increased success. The game retrospectively received a positive reception from video game publications for its gameplay and increased difficulty.

A rhythm game designed by a sadist on meth (or salvia if doubles is your thing). Even at its lowest points (cough CB and Rootage cough), it is still probably better than most other VSRGs or rhythm games in general I've played. No other rhythm game has become (or probably will become) as ludically dynamic or as aesthetically and musically varied as IIDX. Genuinely becomes a transcendental experience once you're used to the throat punching. Only genuine criticism I have is how absolutely wide (and somewhat overcharted) 12s can be. Look at this and this and tell me these are totally the same difficulty. Just decimalize these fuckers already, Konmai. Even then, shit just fucks hard and will make your hands cum if you eventually get to 12s.

i have a passion for this game and the culture around it. it's the game i've put the most hours into ever in my life. amazingly solid and fun gameplay mechanics that to this day stand solid. a masterpiece

The only perfect game. No one will ever design anything with mechanics tighter than this, and it's pointless to even try.

Sadly I haven't really had the opportunity to play IIDX in some years now; I keep meaning to pick it back up, but the costs associated with it and the fact that I already have a bunch of other hard games to play keep me from really committing to it. It will always have a special place in my heart, though.
