Adorable! Perfect first platformer for 8+ (including me). Does a great job of balancing avoiding being too difficult or frustrating with providing consistent engagement and a sense of accomplishment. I wish I could take the dust bath animation with me everywhere in my pocket.

This was a wonderful experience that was both relaxing and requiring some good thinking as well. The graphics are very charming with lots of details. The world invites you to explore it and learn more about the characters. The soundtrack is very calming and reminiscent of super nintendo games in a good way. I was worried the gameplay would be too simple and easy based on the demo but my fears were unnecessary. The game focuses heavily on solving puzzles with a bit of platforming and finding the 24 collectibles. I was surprised how far the game went in terms challenge. It's not too difficult. For the most part it was fine, I only thought one puzzle went too far compared to the other puzzles. The rest is manageable if you pay attention. I was also surprised about the variety of the puzzles. My interest remained high and I was eager to visit all the areas. There were a couple of side quests but most of them were part of the story, and therefore mandatory.

Despite the praise, the game also has some flaws unfortunately. The game doesn't have certain options in the settings menu such as resolutions, window/fullscreen and keybindings. I have no idea if I'm playing in 1440p (my monitor's native resolution). It's harder to read text if you're playing in certain languages, mainly Japanese. Often times, retro font doesn't go well with kanji. The game has no achievements at the moment but the developer did mention they want to add them. The game also had quite a few bugs due to the nature of the puzzles that can easily cause softlocks. However, we've had 10 patches since release. Most of the bugs should be fixed at this point but the developer is clearly willing to fix any bugs if there is more.

I don't normally buy games without any impressions or reviews but I'm glad I did with Chicken Journey. It's worth it if you're looking for some cute adventure and not looking for complicated mechanics. This has been a great first game by this developer. I'm excited with whatever they do next.
