Crimson Spires

released on Oct 27, 2020

This otome-style visual novel blends eeriness and romance into a compelling drama. A ring of deadly towers traps you in the small mining town of Bataille, Missouri with extreme conspiracy theorists, a serial killer, and wealthy vampires. Choose your partner wisely.

So badly optimized it's truly astounding. Pretends it has gameplay, sometimes you can move but what for? You click two little things and thats it.The plot itself is, okay? Very forgetful. The only good thing this game has going for it is how the LI's and the MC are truly morally grey and can from time to time be interesting.

Ok, so I’m not the target audience for Otome, but I enjoy visual novels so I gave this a go anyway. Strange going ons, after mysterious towers appear surrounding the
town of Bataille, preventing anyone from leaving and effectively killing anyone trying to. Weird religious cults, skewered memories, serial killers and vampires are all part of the show. Erica, the protagonist (and the character you play), a former FBI agent and currently appointed town Sheriff, is a little dense when piecing clues together and I continually felt like I was always steps ahead of her. And since I wasn’t in this for the dating sim aspects, focusing more on solving the mysteries it tended to get a little frustrating to not have her follow though on significant leads. I still enjoyed it’s x-file vibe but I think I’m satisfied with just one walkthrough of the story, despite my unhappy ending. Otome fans would definitely get way more out of this.

would have to say this is one of the most innovative i've played of the genre. the art style is great, the main love interest is probably the best written VN character, and the atmosphere and worldbuilding is done very well.

despite its flaws, i can't help but love what the game itself does for the visual novel dating sim genre and would love more of this going forth.
