As an entire series, Danganronpa is absolutely my biggest guilty pleasure I've experienced and it doesn't come close.

Beginning with positives, conceptually Danganronpa is endearing and fairly unique. The suspense around who might be next to die is pretty captivating for me and kept the games enjoyable throughout. Trial gameplay is mostly solid outside of some of the minigames and it is occasionally actually difficult to find a contradiction. Some of the characters throughout the games are actually really excel in their own writing such as Nagito in the second game. A few of the cases ALMOST reach the level of Ace Attorney's highs but that's subjective. The atmosphere of all three games is incredible, with game 1 being the best of the 3. The OST stays great throughout all 3 games as well. Monokuma stays an enjoyable character throughout all 3 games luckily as well, but definitely drops off in the third game at some parts.

Unfortunately, that's about it for positives and the flaws of this series really can make this unenjoyable for anyone who wants to try it. A good 25% or so of the trials throughout the series are absolute ass and the plot is absolute garbage once you get past the first game. Most of the characters' deeper moments and qualities are locked behind the Free Time Event mechanic (Think social links from persona) and their development in the main story takes a significant hit from it. The art in the third game is absolute dogshit at times, sometimes during emotional or significant moments. Some of the characters are incredibly tropey and therefore shallow, making anything that happens to them feel not impactful at all. Some cases literally have gaps in logic/possibility and the games miss a lot of potential for cool plot moments or character development.

The games are a one of a kind experience but the disclaimers I've placed can be genuine killers towards someone's enjoyment of the games. There's a lot of fun to be had with this franchise but if those flaws sound bad to you, don't play this and just stick with Ace Attorney.

i dont understand why people hype this shit up or any other danganronpa game for that matter. as somebody who has art experience of 10+ years (including college experience) the art is absolutely atrocious and there have been literal parts where art is literally UNFINISHED (i.e tenkos hand in that one cg in the very beginning of the game)
this game also has a habit of sexualising minors. dont give a shit if theyre “fictional” or “theyre revealed to be adults at the end” you as the player are thought to have the idea that they are all kids in high school regardless so that makes it all the more fucked up. also its probably just me but i despise fanservice. especially with how off putting this game makes it (not to mention an actual child being r worded in udg). if i wanted to look at fucking porn id go watch it somewhere else. literally in every game theres fanservice like oh my LORD i dont care.
oh not to mention how some characters are written ATROCIOUSLY and there are only few parts which actually gives them any sort of redemption. theres maybe like 5 characters max that have any sort of interesting character development. after 3 games theres barely anything new added to this story from what i can tell and it just sucks bro, i could go on and on about how terrible this is

unapologetically the worst game i've ever played. there was so much potential within reach that was forsook for genuinely no reason. none of the characters' writing was taken seriously and whatever the game was trying to achieve with its repetitive writing failed miserably. in truth 2* is a reach as it is already but it's only that high due to the nostalgia points i'm adding of it being a game i found myself enjoying massively when i was younger before discovering more well-written games. actual joke of a game

Omg who convinced me to get this...

Can someone from tumblr tell me why this blew up, I thought it was ok
