After what's certainly among the worst tutorials of all time, you're thrust into a apparently nonsensical game. After rubbing the bottom screen like a fool you start to get how it works. Three stages in you're consistent at it. There's 55 stages and they're all very similar.
So yeah, slightly mind-numbing after the initial shock but its gameplay loop is enjoyable enough, especially once you go for the bonus points combos, to sustain its ~6 hour runtime.
Backgrounds range from OK to actually cool, sometimes however making the items less legible than ideal. The 3D is nice but not incredible. I didn't mind the music but didn't enjoy it as much as some youtube commenters seem to have.
The progression system forces you to go for a chunk of its "challenges" (pretty much achievements) past just beating stages, so one can actually spend a decent chunk of its runtime doing silly shit like watching the demos or grinding points like an idiot on the score attack mode (that's basically just a quickplay mode for the same stages as the main mode lol) or playing the same stage 5 times in a row (which I did) or pausing the game 4 times in the same stage and whatnot. I find that it expects you to engage with it in these ways interesting enough, but it doesn't make the game very much more compelling. Apparently no one has documented how to 100% this game which is funny to me
All in all a good time, but very repetitive and doesn't feel like it justifies itself as a 40 dollar game, which I don't like saying since I love games like MGSV Ground Zeroes, but yeah. This is mostly on how little genuine content there is here, with its short runtime feeling bloated and it not being a particularly impactful or meaningful experience, just a nice little arcade game. Maybe should be a 2.5/5 but it's called Dream Trigger 3D and that's an awesome title so I'm giving it a bit of a pass

Found this in a bargain bin at Best Buy for 2 dollars and it changed my life.

One of the most inscrutable game I’ve ever played, a difficult and nauseating “shooter”
