ESPN NFL 2K5

ESPN NFL 2K5 is an American football video game developed by Visual Concepts for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox consoles. Published by Sega Sports and the Sega Corporation, it is the sixth installment of the NFL 2K series and the last to use official NFL licensing until an unnamed sequel is released in 2021. Gameplay is presented as a live ESPN television broadcast and features the voices and digital likenesses of multiple ESPN on-air personalities. The game was originally released on July 20, 2004. It was the last NFL 2K game to be released before Electronic Arts (EA) signed an exclusive rights agreement with the National Football League (NFL) to make 2K's rival Madden NFL series the only officially licensed NFL game and was also the last game still being developed by Sega.

they just don't make sports games like this anymore

It’s good

One of the greatest football video games ever made, the presentation, graphics, and gameplay were far ahead of its time. It’s a damn shame that EA monopolized the market just a year later

I'm a sports fan but I get that most gamers don't care for the experience that you get from a game like this. That said, I was amazed at how this game is presented and controls. I've played earlier 2K NFL games, as well as entries from the Madden series and the NFL Gameday games. There is good to be found in a lot of those earlier games but football games (read: Madden) have went downhill in the modern era.

ESPN NFL 2K5 was the last "sim" NFL game that doesn't have the word Madden on it and they went out with a bang. As I mentioned before, the game presented an NFL football video game as close to what you would see on ESPN if you were watching the real thing and the ESPN coverage after the fact. I love stats so it was awesome to see how my team and its players had performed after a game as if it was on SportsCenter later that night.

Great memories for a great game that was sold at a budget price(!).

Best football game of all time in my opinion. Everything about this game is fun. Perfect game for what it is.

The best football game of 2004, even with Madden getting a truck stick. This game was so good, EA bought the NFL license and destroyed NFL video games forever.
