Considering that there's no such thing as a bad Fall Guys season, the fact that this is the relative 'worst' of them all isn't a huge knock, to be fair. But unlike OG Season 6, whose games were at least fun and always surprising, this batch of games are just way too mid to justify sitting with them over and over again (usually in the exact same order) for SIX MONTHS. Puzzle Path just became glorified follow-the-leader with zero skill, Speed Slider and Hoop Chute started off strong but eventually felt like going through the motions, and Blastlantis might be the most boring game they've ever added. Sliding doesn't add a whole lot to this either imo, and I don't care enough about Kraken Slam to even comment on it. Still - Fall Guys is Fall Guys, even with these specific mediocre games and surfeit of sadly-vaulted rounds you still can find plenty of fun to be had here in other modes. Plus, come on, SpongeBob and co. are worth the price of admission.

Fall Guys Season 3: Sunken Secrets has a great new Ocean/Underwater theme, a new dive sliding mechanic and 5 new rounds. Puzzle Path is kind of boring but the other 4 are excellent. And also there are some nice new additions like the marathon challenges that gives us reasons to return to the game. It was unfortunately stretched too thin thanks to the delay of Season 4, and vaulting rounds really upset a lot of people, it did not upset me that much but I understand all the frustrations, so I can’t say that it was the best season of Fall Guys. I thought about saying that a lot though before the Season 4 delay. Anyway, it was still a great season in my opinion.

However, the fun begins now. The biggest moment in this game’s future might be upon us. Even bigger than it going free to play. The launch of creative. Oh boy. Next time, we will have a lot to talk. A LOT.

Going Underwater
Damn it, I wanted to say that this season was incredible. I wanted to say that it was the best season. Because I really, really believed it was for the reasons I will talk about in a minute. But damn Mediatonic, their delay of Season 4 caused Season 3 to get stretched. And unfortunately, this season wasn’t ready to get stretched.

This was the second longest running Fall Guys season yet with 169 days. The top one is the legacy Season 6 with 203 days and if you have seen my review of Season 6, you know that it was my least favorite season of Fall Guys so far. But okay, length aside, I really really enjoyed this season and I want to talk about why.

First up, new rounds. And the new theme. Ocean/Underwater theme was just a brilliant idea and all of the new rounds looks incredible. They look amazing. We only got 5 new rounds this season but I have to say, all of them are pretty good. Except maybe 1. We’ll come to that.

Let’s do a different order this time. I usually always start with the races but let’s start with something different. Let’s start with the 2 rounds that doesn’t uses the new mechanic. In this season, we get a new survival round called Blastlantis. We have a map, the map has a lot of blast balls that you can pick up and throw at people. There are low and high platforms and there is a water that is rising.

Blastlantis really looks unique from the art style perspective and I love blast balls so this round is one of if not my favorite survival round in the game. It’s just so fun. We have a new final round with Kraken Slam. There are some solid and not solid platforms. The not solid platforms will go down into the water if you press on them 3 times.

And for each platform that goes down in the water, a kraken tentacle rises. And it smashes down on one of the nearby platforms. If you were standing on that platform, you will just fly away and there is a pretty good chance of you hitting the water and getting eliminated. However, that is not all. These platforms are all also connected to 4 core bigger platforms. And from time to time, the kraken will make 1,2,3 and at the end of the game all 4 core platforms to go sideways, leading all players who stands on those to water.

So, you need to be careful about the kraken tendrils and the core platforms going sideways. This final is also really really fun. It’s challenging and with enough practice, you can start winning it in every game. But there is also that luck factor that helps the players who are not that good. And of course there are other players that might want to push you off the platforms, into the water. And that’s how you get the perfect Fall Guys final. Skill is very important but all players has a chance. Grabbers are effective but there are ways to avoid them and even grabbing will require a lot of skill.

There is 1 new hunt round and this is where we need to talk about the new mechanic introduced with this season. Dive Sliding. Including both the new and old rounds, if you see the purple slime; you can slide on it. Just press the dive button and you will start your slide. The new hunt round Hoop Chute is built around this mechanic. There are these hopes and you need to slide and jump in order to get through them.

Normal hoops are 1 point, gold ones are 3 points. And you need to get to the point cap fast if you want to win. This is a fun game and sliding is a very fun mechanic. But there is a better round in the game that uses this mechanic. A race round called Speed Slider. This time, there are no hoops but there is a race and you gotta go fast.

Speed Slider is just really really really fun. There are all these alternating paths, difficult but fast ones and easy but slow ones. It’s all about that rapid thinking and choice making that I love about this game. And then, there is the other race round and the fifth round that has been added in this season. Puzzle Path. This round is very weird because in most cases, you and a group of other players will follow a leading player that solves the puzzles.

Because if you try to solve them on your own, you will not be able to win. Everyone will be following that one person and will get the win, I mean the qualification without even looking at the path on the ground. The core idea is this. There are multiple circular areas with paths drawn in the ground in each of them. The path starts from the center and goes to one of the portals around the circular map. You need to follow the path to find which portal is the right one.

But here is this interesting thing. The path usually, like 95% leads to multiple portals. From the people I watched, I guess the right path is the final portal, where the path doesn’t continue? But I am not sure. We will see if I was right because right now I will be opening this round’s wiki page. I really really did not looked at it before and if I am wrong, well then you probably can understand why this round fails. It doesn’t even tell us what we should do.

Okay, so I am looking right now. Yeah, so I looked at it and guess what? I was wrong. Turns out, you should never make a turn if you can go straight. That makes sense, but dear Mediatonic; why didn’t you tell that to us from the start? Here is the official in game description of this round. “Follow the line that leads to the correct exit!”

Yeah, maybe even they don’t know how the round works. Like, what is this? Why isn’t the “go straight” rule is in here? Well, now you know at least so you can go back to following that one incredible person who solves each path before you even get to it. Or you will fall back and you will get eliminated. I think this round makes sense, I mean the core idea of it. But every player should be on their own.

Maybe this can even be a final round. But again, every player should be on their own. Or with their own squad if they have it. Because otherwise, it all comes to that one golden player. And that is not fun. Of course, they need to put the “go straight” line into the tips section in the official game. That way, this becomes a round where speed, logic and tracking capabilities comes together. Which is why I thought it might be a final round because all of those might be too much to ask from a casual player in like the second round of a match. But this version is not fun and it needs to change one way or the other.

So, 3 out of 5 rounds, incredible. Kraken Slam, Blastlantis and Speed Slider. They are great. Hoop Chute is good but it’s Speed Slider with hoops. And Puzzle Path, is Puzzle Path. Still, the theme is incredibly strong and the art direction is breathtakingly good. We also had a couple of other additions and changes so let’s quickly talk about those to finish this review.

A new time attack mode has been added. These uses the existing race rounds and the goal is to finish the round as quickly as possible. But if you fail, you can try again. You have a time limit, let’s say 5 minutes for example and you can start from the beginning as much as you want. With just a press of a button. The timer starts when you cross the beginning line and ends when you cross the final line. Even if you finished it one time, you can try again to get a better time.

If you do a better time, that will be your main, calculated time in the leaderboard. If you do a worse one, no worries. Your previous better time will stay. The goal is being in the top 5 of the best times when the time limit ends. This was a great mode. I have spoken in past tense because while it was available in the beginning of the season as it’s own show, it has disappeared and I have never seen it again.

Just checked it out and seems like many people started cheating and using exploits which made the honest and good players angry which is why it was deleted. Probably never coming back, definitely not coming back anytime soon. I have not seen those 2 issues in the time I played but okay, I understand. I learned a lot of things today about Fall Guys. I solved a lot of mysteries. Why Time Attacks disappeared? What is the goal of Puzzle Path? I hope you learned somethings as well. This review goes great but we need to end it soon it’s getting too long.

So final thing I want to talk about, Marathon Challenges. These came in with the Season 3 update, they are a new feature. Kind of. I think they existed before but they weren’t rewarding much. Anyway, Marathon Challenges are basically challenges that runs for the entire season. So obviously their requirements are a lot.

There were 9 of them in this season and completing a number of them gets you exclusive skins. The Poseidon skins. First one is a purple recolored version and the one you get for doing all 9 challenges is the original, Yellow and Green colored one. Following these challenges and trying to get these skins was really good in my opinion, they were a reason to come back even after completing the battle pass which I want to remind you, it is still 200 tiers of content.

First 100 is the normal battle pass, the last 100 gives you 3 recolors of costumes in the first 100 tiers of the battle pass and it gives you a bunch of crown shards. But the point is, there are finally many reasons to come back to the game. Previously, most of us came back for the special skins in the store because those times, we were getting skins with crowns(we earned them by winning a game) and kudos(we earned them at the end of every round, better your medal more kudos you get); now the reasons have changed.

Your reason might be to get more crown shard from the last 100 tiers of the battle pass to get to higher crown rank or getting those special marathon challenge skins. Yes, skins requires too much money now and live event rewards are not as good as they used to be. But still I think with the upgraded 200 tier battle pass, marathon challenges, strong themes like Ocean/Underwater and with good rounds; this game can get back to the point where we all loved it.

I can’t wait for the next season. Where they used digital as a theme and it looks bland and boring. No word on marathon challenges. There are 20 new rounds at launch and 50 new rounds total but they will now use creative tools to make maps and currently creative only allows you to do race rounds? Are all the new rounds races? And digital, that is the theme? Really? You changed the BATTLE PASS? And made it 40 ROUNDS? What the…

A LOT.

In my review for the previous season of Fall Guys I called it a "disaster," so I'm not even sure what to call this one. Things went from very bad to worse throughout this overly long season. Rounds were removed from the game left and right, resulting in a game with less variety than it had even a few months after launch. Uncreative and repetitive limited time events give very little incentive to play, and when I do the game is as buggy as ever and rampant with hackers. Fall Guys really feels like it's on fumes, with its future riding on its new creative mode coming this week. Will that be enough?
