Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade - Project Ember

released on Oct 24, 2019

An overhaul of Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, Project Ember looks to tweak and alter various mechanics of Fire Emblem 6 to create a unique and different experience from the original title. Ranging from unit rebalancing from their bases to growths, to giving various units preferred weapons, altering the promotion of the main protagonist Roy, adjusting how archers work, altering the story in slight ways, as well as altering various details in the maps. Project Ember furthermore adds a new Maniac difficulty to push the various mechanical changes the game enforces to their limits.

It's hard to think of this as a rebalance hack when it feels like a completely different game. The story and characters remain lackluster, and a lot of the maps are still longass hallways, but the altered mechanics and extensively retuned units make what was formerly a grueling turtle-heavy slog into a more aggressive and engaging campaign that's still a slog sometimes but a bit less often. Some may feel that the characters are overtuned, which is pretty easy to understand when so many of them come with brand new Prf weapons. But the original game's cast is so bog standard and malnourished that I'll take more of them being slightly overpowered in ways that make them much more unique and fun to use over Rutger and Melady hard carrying a group of 15 bums. Not a replacement for OG Binding Blade in the slightest, but I can't see myself ever going back to it after playing this.

One of the best Fire Emblem games, but it got boring because on Normal mode I was able to just gather overpowered units and stomp all difficulties. I will probably replay on hard mode. Shoutout to Wendy for being probably the best unit in the game

Really good version of FE6! Absolutely play this game

I just finished this. Had lots of fun most of the time, in some moments I was about to lose my cool, but overall a great experience.
I did enjoy it more than vanilla FE6, but in retrospect while I didn't enjoy some aspects of the vanilla gameplay, PE made me think about how some maps are pretty cool. With the PE units and mechanics, that is.
I still dislike the gaidens and all that jazz, especially not being able to get the true ending without all of them, but it is what it is. The story is still nothing special most of the time; I still like Zephiel as a concept but the execution was a bit bland. I did appreciate Idunn's story a lot more, especially the final cutscene with Fae.
I know a lot of diehard fans of FE6 will say PE is not better, I think it is. But at its core, it's still FE6, so my opinion on it is not nearly as bad as it used to be. In the end PE shares the same place in my heart as Conquest (great gameplay, mediocre story except in some parts), while vanilla FE6 is not abyss fiction anymore (that's for 3 Frauds).

Just an outstanding patch to an already great game! The rebalanced stats and addition of some characters, along with lots of character-specific Prf. weapons, helped make everyone feel viable. Some of the new spritework is amazing, and the crits looked and felt incredible. There are a lot of other QOL enhancements and changes I won't go into here, and overall made the game feel incredibly fun to play. The last two dungeons were an absolute slog and borderline cruel, and archers are way overpowered (both for and against you). Overall, this was a fantastic version of the game to play, with some misses here and there, but I'd highly recommend!
