Genetically-alter animals to create scientific marvels in "Impossible Creatures", the 2003 classic RTS. Taking place in a fictional 1930's setting, take down evil villains in the single player campaign or challenge other players online in multiplayer. Create combined creatures from a selection of stock animals' genetic samples. Many animals possess inherent abilities to add more strategic depth to the game. There is an extensive single-player campaign as well as online multiplayer functionality with different game modes, add-ons, custom maps, mods, and scenarios. On November 12th 2015 Impossible Creatures was released on Steam as Impossible Creatures: Steam Edition, by Nordic Games. The Steam version includes all patches and expansion packs released in the past, the IC Online servers reimplemented through Steam's cloud service and the game's modding SDK included in the package alongside the Mission Editor originally available within the game's files; potential Steam Workshop support is in the works. The Steam Edition is also optimized for modern computer systems and software.

I just replayed this after many nostalgia-drenched years away, and you know what? I expected to be disappointed, and walked away surprisingly entertained.

For a single player RTS, this game did a fair amount right - the setting was fun, the maps varied, and the unit grunts were entertaining, and creature building is still a grand old time. Sure it's not perfect, and the user experience is incredibly dated, but this one was surprisingly satisfying to go back to. In fact, I think even a modern RTS fan looking for something fun and unique could have a good time here.

It was an amazing game that took hundreds of hours out of my childhood.

Se han ampliado con DLC y mods, pero pienso que se podría haber hecho mejor.
La campaña era demasiado difícil para mi cuando lo jugué, y por ello no le pongo una nota perfecta. Pero sigue siendo un juego muy interesante.
Ojalá un remake.

Just for the Creature Creator this game gets 5 stars. It's so silly and fun. And the way you hybridize your creatures has a real effect on the gameplay!
More games should have a mechanic so absurd at their core.

I have to admit, I wanted this game ever since I saw the package back when I was in school, roughly 14 years ago. On the picture there was a weird creature with a tiger's head and a scorpion body and I thought that was totally awesome!

The story is about a young ex-war journalist named, Rex Chance. Oh yes, this goes way into B-Movie territory, which makes sense considering the major feature of the game is building up an army of creatures that have been genetically spliced to create new and terrible creatures that borrow abilities off others. In come cases the increased size is what's important, but in other cases it's the ability to fly through the air and drop rocks or zap with electricity. You receive a letter from your estranged father, but as you arrive you find not only his lab has been left unattended for so long, but you get attacked by Wolf scorpions. You're saved by your father's assistant and discover the project he was working on and help by using your rifle to gather DNA of various creatures to add to your ever growing Library to give you a wider range of animals to splice level after level.

The game balances this out by having each species have a research level category, so you can't start off producing the nastiest thing you can develop, but there is also a handy little library option to save creatures to so that if you only have high rank creatures in your selection screen, you can trade them out.

It's a very fun RTS and I've been loving the B-Movie feel from it too. I'd recommend it to any fan of RTS who is interested in seeing how a game might do certain things different.

Edit: Fuck level 14. Seriously, I HATE time-limited levels in strategy games!

No idea how I got my hands on this game. My childhood is so repressed, it's a blurry fade in the distance. I'm starting to believe that a copy of it just one day materialized tangible data into my hands and already installed into my PC.

The best thing about this game is definitely the Creature Creator where you animorph two animals together like you would make a combo pizza in your own kitchen; smashed together.

Forget about the rest of the game, it's a pretty standard RTS with unfair AI but that part's been done ten times over already. I refuse to believe that there is any actual thought into the mumbo jumbo that is customizing the animals for success and perfect stat optimization. NO! You want to make cool things and watch them murder coal miners for sport.

"THE CRITTERS ARE UNDER ATTACK!!!" will haunt you for the rest of your life. You'll play this earnest and honest once, get completely rocked and then limit your AI opponents to only using Animal/Snake combos that can't do anything other than slither around. You'll then win and feel very good about yourself.

GREAT NEWS, this game is older than my mom, yet it's available on Steam.
