Lamento: Beyond the Void

released on Oct 27, 2006

The game takes place in a fictional world inhabited by Ribika (who look like humans but have cat ears and tails). Their world has fallen into dark times -- a mysterious void has made some places (and even animals) impossible to touch, causing major food shortages. A strange and deadly disease that has killed off a large percentage of the female Ribika population is also spreading. The hero, Konoe, exists in this miserable world, living alone in the starving village of Karou who have turned to cannibalism. The story begins with Konoe in Karou, where he suddenly begins to see horrible dreams and strange marks appear on his body. This is believed to be a curse so Konoe heads off to Ransen (the big city) in order to heal his body...

lamento really deserves a proper localisation (kudos to the fan-translation, everyone did an excellent job!) but i understand why the localisation is a big deal to do. good news though, a lamento stageplay will be released in 2024! the cast is amazing so another win for us guys!

the game is HUGE. took me 70h hours to do two main routes and almost the whole third one, which i will finish soon but the world building and the atmosphere, not to mention the character writing and the routes themselves are absolutely amazing. it is a bit tiring going through some parts while replaying but i do think it's worth because compared to other n+c games in my opinion lamento's writing is the strongest.
the main menu and the whole interface is so fairylike i adore it + the ost is gorgeous!!! such an enjoyable experience.
also because i'm a tormented good looking old man enjoyer bardo's route hit the hardest for me. i'm sorry asato and rai fans, they're good but old tiger man supremacy >:)

jastblue needs to give localizing this another go because more people need to experience the epic highs and lows of gay singing catboys in the apocalypse
(srsly though, i think the three main routes of rai, asato, and bardo are some of the best BL I've read in general, each of them feel so well thought out as characters, and it has a really engrossing mysterious atmosphere that i think is really special)

please release an official english localization jast blue i'm begging
