Metal Max 3

released on Jul 29, 2010

Metal Max 3 (メタルマックス3 Metaru Makkusu Surī) is the seventh entry in the Metal Max series (besides Metal Saga series). It is a vehicle combat RPG produced by Cattle Call and co-published by Kadokawa Games, Enterbrain, and Crea-Tech for the Nintendo DS exclusively in Japan in 2010. In 1993, Metal Max 2 was published by Data East, who retained the trademark rights to series until its closure in 2003 and the liquidation of its intellectual properties in 2004. In April 2009, Enterbrain (Kadokawa's subsidiary) obtained the rights and published Metal Max 3 the next year. It is the first numbered entry in the series in 17 years. A remade version in DS of Metal Max 2 was published in 2011, and used Metal Max 3's engine. Similar with its predecessors, the game is open-ended and non-linear.

I am currently playing this game via fan translation and oh my god is this game worth your time if you're into RPG's.

The game's sense of humor is fucking amazing. From the jump, the game sets up that you're a mysterious dude with amnesia but the game makes you be kind of an asshole no matter what dialogue option you pick and it works really well establishing your character. I don't laugh at games even with humor I can gel with but I was actually dying reading the dialogue and the dialogue choices your character has.

Early game combat is typical turned-based affair but it is really quick and snappy as I can easily see there will be like 10+ characters on screen in a battle. I don't have to get that far to know the pacing was baked into the combat well.

This game has kept a smile on my face throughout my play time so far. I usually try a game out once to say that I played it and move on, but I'm going to stick around for Metal Max 3 because I want to see if you can really fuck that dude's mom.

The now defunct Data East cult RPG series is back.
Ten years ago, I rejoiced. I thought I'd be able to drive a tank through the wilderness and beehive a monster with a bounty on its head again.
There are a few minor criticisms, but I'm very pleased.
