The core gameplay is solid. The story mode is a highlight (though the story itself isn't as good as 9 or X). But the rest of the game is such a pointless grind. The sheer amount of unlockables and the extensive, largely randomised, process through which to get them is just ridiculous.
raiden, show me who did it!….one last time…
thanks for everything mk11! you were the best most violent dress up game i’ve ever played
Quick review:
Unfortunately, the fantastic fanservice (especially with the guest characters) and absurd production value does not save this game from how utterly boring it is to play, especially compared with its immediate predecessor. I understand the desire to make a more patient, grounded game after how fast Mortal Kombat X was, but this was just… lame. I’m no expert, so I won’t dig deep into the mechanics, but I just find it a considerable downgrade from how fluid and open MKX was.
The weird roster didn’t help much (seriously, why was Takeda, the most popular MKX newcomer, removed alongside Kenshi?), and neither did the grind for customization - while the variety and breadth of options is really admirable, the Krypt eventually became a chore to complete and the Towers of Time all felt samey after a while.
Probably not ever coming back to this one once MK1 releases. Spawn was awesome, at least.
