This game straight-up sucks to control with a mouse. But no amount of nostalgia will convince me to buy a joystick in 2023.

Played the special 1994 version using a Logitech extreme 3D Pro Joystick

Honestly, this game is just the same thing as X-wing but you play as the bad guys. That's all it is.

People always hail this as one of the best Star Wars games ever made, but just like X-Wing, I think this game is extremely flawed.

The big step up is that you actually have teammates that do something in this one! They actually kill stuff and help you, so that's nice.

Missions generally feel easier yet frustratingly difficult. You have more teammates, you're fast and nimble, yet you blow up and die upon getting hit once or twice. This wouldn't be that bad if the missions weren't so extremely long. You could be like 10 minutes into a mission, and just randomly get shot a SINGLE TIME, and you have to do the entire thing over again. I understand this is a flight simulator type game, but honestly this is just really annoying and not fun.

Same charm and everything as X-Wing, similar level of flaws.

I didn't put nearly as much hours into this one as I already played enough of X-Wing, but I think this game is slightly better than X-Wing due to better missions, actual teammates, and better tutorials, but it is nowhere near the best Star Wars game of all time. It's a very flawed game that can bring endless frustration, but it's extremely cool and can provide awesome moments.

Just like X-Wing, I'd only recommend this if you're a die hard fan.
