Tanuki Sunset is a third-person longboard-skating game where players play as a raccoon skating downhill on a procedurally generated synthwave-themed seaside road. Drift your way around the narrow corners, gather Tanuki Bits to fill up your Bonus Roulette Meter and try and gather as many points as you can. Drift often. Get some air-time and avoid cars and obstacles while pushing your luck close to the walls and edges to get near-miss moments and tight-squeezes to maximize your score.

To me, this game thrives on vibes majorly, and isn't bad to play. I don't love what it's billed as vs. what it is. It's sort of sold as this kind of chill vibe-out game, but is a lot more difficult than it seems on the surface. Which isn't really bad. The chillness comes mostly from the bits of dialogue and character archetypes in it, and the tunes are pretty good. It is a bit frustrating at times but nothing too unfair, generally. I do wish there was a bit more variety to levels, and maybe some more(with more checkpoints in them), but what is here is very good. Maybe just get it on a slight sale, 2 or 3 bucks off.

But it's hard to go wrong with a low-poly raccoon game. It's somewhat becoming a niche subgenre/aesthetic and I am one hundred percent supportive of that and will buy into it even if the game itself doesn't hit me just right.

i remember this game having some twitter popularity when it was still in development but then i kinda just forgot about it and honestly... for good reason the movie is very much style over substance and while that can still make for an enjoyable game i found that here the levels went on for way too long making it kinda tedious rather than relaxing more but shorter levels would be the way to go here imo

The tanuki is cute but the game really should've stayed as a browser game. This version is just pretty boring and dry, and definitely too long.

I loved the vaporwave/synthwave aesthetic of this game. It epsecially shows well through the music. This game also has nice unlockables like shirts, hats, skateboard decks and more that you unlock thru collecting the in game nacho currency lol. Anyway, the level design was really interesting and everytime you die the level rearrages itself so its always a new experience. There are also challenges within levels. Unfortunately, the game does tend to drag on a bit and I was bored after a while. If you're just playing the game from start to finih you'll get about 2 or 3 hours of gameplay. Which seems short, but the way the game kindof dragged for me made it feel like forever. This is a fun game to play in short bursts. But, long sessions left me very bored after a while.

the music is really good im just bad at these types of games i havent played in a while so maybe id be better at it
tanuki is so cute

Simple fun. Gets old after a while, though.
