Easily the best version of the game. The game looks incredible and feels better to play than it has before (though most of the gameplay loop is the same). $70 is a tough price tag to swallow, but if its your first time playing its 100% worth it. For any returning fans, try to find it on sale if you feel like you want to dive back in to the game for the graphical/AI improvements.

Look, I am not going to sugar coat it. This is worth $70 without a doubt.
If you played TLOU upon release in 2013 on PS3, buy it.
If you played TLOU Remastered in 2015 on PS4, buy it.
If you've just now gotten your first PS console since the PS2, buy this game ASAP.
There is a strange narrative that a studio should have the right to charge its players $70 for a remaster. That would make sense if this wasn't a 2013 game being made in the likeness of the best 2022 games. TLOU Part 1 puts the original tooth and nail with the likeness of TLOU2 from a couple years ago. There was no sacrifice of art style, and the fact that the canon sequel doesn't share the exact art style with the original game proves it. THIS is what TLOU was always meant to look like in the end.
The foliage alone is worth the price of admission and that's not even to mention better modeled characters, the Dualsense compatibility, and the overhauled Gore features. Buy this game the second you're able to and then buy TLOU Part 2 immediately after.

i had my doubts about this game when it was announced. i felt that the last of us aged reasonably well, so remaking it just seemed like a waste of resources.
but after playing through the last of us part 1 i can confidently say that this is the 3rd best experience i ever had with any video game, only surpassed by the last of us pt 2 and the original last of us.
yeah i know i wish i wasn't such an absolutely insane sucker for naughty dog either, but i just cant help it. last of us games simply always get me emotionally invested into them in a way which no other game seems to be able to replicate.
apart from graphics, there are two major ways in which this game improves upon the original last of us:
the first is gameplay. it's pretty much just the gameplay from tlou p2, meaning way better ai, weapons that feel amazing to use and somewhat unsettling yet satisfying gore effects. it is incredibly intense and gratifying.
the original tlou had pretty good gameplay too, but this really took it up a notch.
the second area is facial animations. now this seems like a minor thing, but i was really surprised by how much these new animations enhanced every cutscene.
for example, the opening of the game never really got me that emotional. but this time, with the new facial animations? that shit broke my heart man... the characters emotions are simply so much more real and intense.
all in all, this game, with its vast improvements upon the original, gave me an experience i never thought to be possible:
it felt like i was playing my favorite game of all time for the first time again.

Imagine 3 years later for the PS6
they release this game as the Last of Us Part I:The Sequel
And people will go crazy for it. Saying how it's great
. Forgetting this is a remake of a remake of a remake of a game
what a pointless remake

This is the same game as The Last of Us that came out in 2013, and it deserves the same rating. Just because the game doesn't do anything different doesn't matter, sure it's not great that Naughty Dog is selling the game at full price again doesn't feel great, but a lot of people worked on making this new game, so it's earned. On whether or not you should play this, if you would replay the original, you should play this.

Joel and Ellie are the heart and soul that rank this beautiful game among the best that I've ever played. Their relationship, and the way it evolves, still holds up as one of the best pieces of video game writing ever put to pixels. Combined with a rotating cast of excellent supporting characters, interesting and artfully post-apocalyptic locations, a perfectly moody soundtrack, and some genuinely smart moments of horror, this still stands out as probably the best game Naughty Dog has ever created. Now remade with the stunning graphics and smooth gameplay of Part Two, The Last of Us Part One is among the best games released so far in 2022. Easy five stars, and one of my favorite games of all time.
