Ys: The Vanished Omens is an action role-playing game with its own trademark combat system: instead of pressing the "attack" button, the protagonist simply runs into the enemies he encounters. More damage is inflicted upon the enemies if Adol charges at them from the back or from the sides - a head-to-head collision might result in the hero's death if the monster is stronger than him. The player gains gold and experience points for defeating foes; once enough experience has been accumulated, Adol levels up and becomes stronger. The hero can buy and equip swords, armor, shields, and other accessories.

I could have just played the psp, pce or ds versions but i love making bad decisions

First things first, the music is GODLY. Graphics are alright for its age, I like the detailed outer structure of the houses and I felt even the npcs were distinctive.

The meat of the game, the combat is simple and repetitive but pretty enjoyable and relaxing while still holding your attention. The bosses are standouts of my playthrough, with retroachievements making this more memorable. Had a blast doing the no damage runs of the first 3 bosses.

Overall a fun, short romp. Simpler than Zelda but I personally like this one more because of the rpg elements and sense of progression through levels and equipment

there's only so much a man can take...
