A Mixed Bag of New Rounds
Fall Guys: Free for All Season 2 is basically a one to one remake of the Season 1 in terms of content. It has the same amount of rounds with almost the same amount for each type. It also introduces some new battle pass changes and it has a much requested theme. Unfortunately though, while Season 1’s formula of new content was pretty good; great levels made that season great. This season’s rounds however are not that great. Let’s start talking about it.

We have 4 race rounds. Cosmic Highway and Space Race are the traditional races of this season. It’s interesting that we get 2 classic races in one season. They are good though with new obstacles that keeps the tension up.

The other 2 races however is not that good. First up is Starchart, a very weird idea and it seems that most people don’t understand what they supposed to do. So, at the far end of the map, in the sky, there is a Starchart. And you are on floating platforms. Every platform has a button in the middle of it and when you press it, it shows you on that chart which way is safe. You need to look at the star chart and go in the direction of wherever is safe. And you will see that you didn’t fall because there were invisible blocks there.

Again, many people didn’t understand this and it seems that there are multiple dead ends, especially at the end and if you come upon one of those, you might get a game over. It’s fun but also not that fun. It’s weird, that’s for sure. Then there is the fourth and final race round. It seems more like a logic round or a team round to me but what do I know? Pixel Painters, yeah.

This one is exclusive to duos or squads and in this one you and your teammate must use the painter on the floor to recreate the painting you see in front of you in the air. It’s fairly easy and could be fun actually but no, why? Because guess what? The people you matchmake with can be a terrible person. I mean, I can kind of understand the ones who just does nothing and stands around.

They protest in a way. Ok. But while I was in a 3 person squad and 2 of us were trying to do the game while the third one did nothing; that third one saw us going good and decided to run through our painter to make us lose. Like what? I know that this is not on game developers but there is something on them as well because just like Starchart, many people didn’t understand this round as well.

Like, what the hell? Didn’t you do beta tests? This round can be fun but the rate of that is pretty low. There is a new hunt round called Frantic Factory which is Button Bashers but everyone is on the same map, chasing to press the glowing buttons. Of course there are like 20,30 buttons throughout the map. I think this is much better than Button Bashers but I was still disappointed whenever I saw this round come up.

And I know that some people just hated Button Bashers so I don’t think it will change their minds. The one new survival round might be the best new round in this batch. It’s called Hyperdrive Heroes and yes it’s similar to that iconic Season 4 round where you ride on a hoverboard. Which was called Hoverboard heroes. The exact same logic is used in here but the obstacles of this round are very crazy and this is a very hard round to beat. This is the spiritual successor to Slime Climb and Slimescraper in terms of difficult maps. And I LOVED it.

We also have 2 new final rounds this time which is nice. One of them sucks though and that is Tip Toe Finale. Yes; 2,3 or 4 teams enters and they each have tip toe blocks in front of them. First one to get to the middle and touch the crown wins. I think this is absolutely terrible. Mostly based on luck. I HATE this round. This is the worst round in this batch by a long mile and I hope they just delete it. I really really hate this one.

But the other final round, Hex-A-Terrestrial is fantastic. It uses the new mechanic, timed hexes. These hexes disappear just like normal hexes when you touch them but they come back after a few seconds and this final is just very exciting. There is only one layer but walls are closing in forcing you to get to the middle where everything goes crazy and you try to be the last one standing. It’s very fun, very competitive, this is great.

As you can see, the new rounds are a mixed bag with some incredible ones like Hex-A-Terrestrial or Hyperdrive Heroes; some good ones like Cosmic Highway and Space Race and some terrible ones like Pixel Painters or Tip Toe Finale. But overall, I still like the theme very much and that carried me through even the rounds I didn’t like. Except Tip Toe Finale that one just made me go crazy.

There is also a really really nice change to the Battle Pass. Now, 100th tier isn’t the end. There are now 200 tiers but after the 100th you only have a few rewards. You have 3 costumes that are reskins of some of the battle pass costumes which makes 6 tiers with tops and bottoms for each. And the rest of the 94 tiers are crown shard rewards. But I really enjoyed this addition because while it doesn’t force people to go for 200th tier, if you play the game a lot; you will be rewarded.

This is such a cool addition and I think a big indicator that Mediatonic are actually listening to their fans’ feedback. Unfortunately this season had no currency changes and while the newly introduced Show-Bucks are fine, live events’ rewards quality is not good since the free to play change and Kudos are still not awarded to us through normal play. I mean come on, at least let us get some Kudos.

Fall Guys: Free For All Season 2 is a good season. That battle pass update might seem small but it’s such an important thing to add in my opinion and while some of the rounds are bad and this batch of rounds might be the most mixed yet; there are still 8 new rounds and a fantastic new theme. And I am sure you will going to find some rounds that you will like, maybe even love. So while not as good as the previous season, I think this season was still good.

game was still fun but mediatonic dicked the game over and over again until it was a shell of how it was at the start of the season.

The new maps are really well detailed and have tons of optional routes to take. Many older maps got updated with new segments which spice them up and arguably make most better. The battle pass has space themed crossovers like Alien Isolation and Star Trek. This season definitely improves the game over the previous season but it doesn't fix the problems the free to play format has brought (mainly not being able to get anything without paying money constantly).

why would you remove video capture on switch, to improve the performence which is already quite mediocre at best? And now it's even worse???

Forgettable but serviceable. Laughable when compared to OG Season 2, especially considering how this just rehashes OG Season 4's exact theme (which, to be fair, was one of its weakest seasons imo - so I'm not entirely opposed to a retry). And in this season's defense, it definitely isn't as fatiguing as its other space-season counterpart - this one knew its place and didn't overstay its welcome. However, you really start to pick up on the game's newly aggressive vaulting practices here. Starchart sort of sucks, and Pixel Painters would be infinitely better if it was a solo (or even duo) deal as opposed to 4-player teams. Frantic Factory is meh, though all the other games get a thumbs up - most notably Cosmic Highway and Tip Toe Finale, the latter serving as a very tense and creative final. Downgrade from SS1, upgrade from SS3.

"A Definite Letdown"

Man, this season should have been so much better. They had an easy opportunity to spice up the game by adding new types of minigames, changing the leveling system, increasing the amount of playing vs. watching, and fixing numerous bugs/janky gameplay issues. However, there was little content added, a lackluster battle pass, and pretty much zero additions to the gameplay in order to make it smoother.

There were some minigames that saw removal and frequency reduction very early on, making this feel like a chore of a season to play. After a few weeks I just completely dipped, not caring much about the rest of the battle pass after unlocking the Alien. The new maps were slight improvements on the formula, but the formula already feels like it has run its course.

I'm unsure if I will continue to play this game at the moment. At the time of this review, "Fall Guys" is partially through Season 3, but I don't know what would bring me to check it out besides trying to unlock Spongebob Squarepants (which I likely won't do considering it's a Level 100 unlock - also, I don't play games just to unlock things if they aren't fun to play...). I just find this developer to be too unoriginal with adding content, and the fact that hex-based game modes are the most interesting despite all being the same shows how little fun there really is in this title. There needs to be better minigames besides the crappy races and button mashing ones being added. Hopefully they can improve and I'll come back in the future - or maybe another developer can improve this genre just a bit more by releasing a more creative title.

Final Verdict: 4/10 (Below Average)

No acabé mi pase de batalla. ))): y luego le cambiaron los valores al progreso del nivel ay no se veía mejor con valores chiquitos.

This season was a nightmare. The content was decent, with some pretty good new levels and cosmetics, but somehow the state of the game got worse and worse over the course of the season. Levels being removed (including most of those new levels), mind-boggling performance bugs, and ever-changing game physics have left the game in a terrible state going into the next season. I wonder if Mediatonic really has the bandwidth to ever catch up and make things right again.
