Bons:
Gameplay(tiro), inimigos espertos

On a whim, I decided to replay this game to see how I feel about it currently. While I still don't think it's perfect due to On A Rail and the Xen chapters really bringing the game down, I had a much better time with the game overall. Playing the sequels and Black Mesa along with being more familiar with FPS games greatly helped me appreciate this title even more. I continue to respect the game for being so innovative in many ways and managed to find new enjoyment in it now.

One of the best games from my childhood. Half-Life is one of those few games that truly redefined the First Person Shooter genre. Ominous settings, creatures from other worlds, stellar visual narrative, besides of very fun gunplay mechanics that few games stand for nowadays.

Half-Life is a special game, pure history of videogames, really unique, and that's why for many reasons is still playable, even in the standards from today.

A game I very much recommend playing despite being almost 30 years old, but, if you're capable of ignoring that, I really think you'll love it. Specially if you like shooters as much as I do.

the opening hour of this game is soooooo gooood. maybe the most atmosphere of any 90s shooter from the getgo. rides the high of the awesome goldsrc movement and silly weapons. the audio design is super blown out and iconic. chef's kiss. nearly every single one of my runs has stopped at office complex.

Gameplay - 8/10
This game has, somehow, one of the most addicting gameplay loops ever, even if it is incredibly simple and sometimes annoying

Graphics - 9/10
For the time, its probably the best looking game in 1998

Performance - 10/10
This game would run on a roll of Cellotape and still be able to get 16.234859fps

Story - 6/10
Its a pretty engaging story and is probably the first game to have a story that doesnt develop around you, but in front of you

Price
This game is worth the price of £7.99

Alien, The Thing, Doom and Quake all had a baby with each other.

The legendary immortal classic that influenced the First Person Shooter genre was probably one of my very first games as a toddler without me knowing about playing it before. I never made it back when the Aliens attack and for some reason never played it until know.

As the headline suggests its easy to say that games like Doom and Quake had some influence on this games plot along with Ridley Scotts Alien and John Carpenters The Thing. The headcrab monster pretty much seems to be inspired by the facehugger from Alien, while the infected Zombies reminist on the humans that the Thing from the movie The Thing took over.

What sets this apart from other FPS games from its time is the way the game tells its story. The story itself is rather simple yet its the way the game used the gaming world and its environment to tell the story is what makes it.

The gameplay is pretty solid as it uses your typical FPS combat along with some puzzle solving. Enemy variety is pretty good but I will say that we had FPS games with better monsters before and after. What kinda baffles me that the human soldiers you fight are mostly a bigger threat than the Alien enemies which is kinda weird since monsters normally should be more dangerous. The shotgun is also kinda lame to use against humans. Firstly because of the low damage it does and second because you can't blow enemies heads away, yet you can explode them into pieces. Other than that the game has good weapon variety. The game can also become kinda frustrating at points but that might be more of a skill thing rather than the games own quality. At least you can save whenever you want and the game still uses checkpoints.

The sound design is pretty amazing. Never was it more fun to smack a crowbar into a wall. Amazing noises. The headcrabs also sound kinda adorable lol.

I wouldn't call Half-Life a masterpiece like some others do but its still a pretty damn good game and a must play for every FPS fan.

8/10 Resonance Cascades.

I played this game more so because it was a game that revolutionized the gaming industry but nothing more

I actually can't believe how good this game is and how much it holds up despite being 20+ years old.

Spoiler alert: This is another case of me liking the first game more than I like the sequels, and that is because this game also serves as kind of like a horror game, where you have to escape a science facility that is trying to kill you every 10 seconds.

I absolutely adore how horribly wrong things go here. From the moment the resonance cascade happens, everything is already destroyed, there are corpses all over the place, and you are just hopelessly running around with nothing but one thought in your head....To get out. This game takes the same idea as Portal but doubles down on it and spins it on it's head.

Not everything is perfect tho, the game is admittedly dated in some areas. I don't like the on rails section of the game too much...And the alien planet just felt pretty rushed, ugly and lackluster.

However, those are miniscule downsides to what is otherwise a timeless game. If you haven't played it yet, give it a shot! I am currently replaying it actually, and I can't wait to play Black Mesa after I am done with this one.

I. Love. This. Game. I love it's world, I love it's gameplay, I love it's graphics, (even if it ain't the best.) this game is my LIFE. The start of the game, Anomalous Materials, is something i always come back to, it's one of my favorite places to mess around in. The little goofs and gags, the atmosphere, the resonance cascade where it all goes wrong, everything about it just clicks to me. The latter half is a slog to many, since it ramps up the difficulty so much, but i didn't have too many problems with Xen? Maybe because I know so much about it. Final Boss isn't the most cinematic thing, but i think that's what Black Mesa is for. That one is probably next on my list!

This game is one of the most classic shooters ever made for a damn good reason. It's got great weapons, great enemies, great scientists, and one hell of a fun death match mode. Shame they had to rush Xen so much, though.

When I think of Retro PC Games HL is what comes to mind. This game released in 1998, it has a charm in its appearance that holds up nicely. I enjoyed the story experienced here in its unique environmental story telling. A silent protagonist learning the story through environmental interactions. The gameplay flows like butter and does a nice job letting you feel in control especially with its simple but effective UI. I had no problem managing gameplay while being immersed in the story. Now when it comes to replay-ability. This will go on my mind shelf ready to jump back in when I’m feeling nostalgic to simpler times!

Half-Life was an amazing game for it's time but nowadays I'd just recommend buying Black Mesa instead because its just Half-Life but more modern and enjoyable.

it's fine! i'm just not a huge fps guy. gunplay is pretty average, you get some wackier things near the very end at least but it's kinda too little too late for me. movement is a source game so it's obviously fun to run around in but precision platforming still feels a bit silly and awkward. looks pretty great for the time though, and it also has some iconic sound effects and music.

this feels like something everyone who is interested in the behemoths of video game history and especially FPS history should absolutely play. it's obviously very ahead of its time and influential to the genre as a whole, it's just a genre that even at it's peak isn't all that special to me, especially in single player campaigns.

It has aged remarkably well! I had a fun time for the most part, but I have to admit that parts of it were very, very annoying. The shooting is fun, I like fighting the zombies and army dudes, but the more advanced stuff made me use the quicksave feature a bit too much. The exploration and "puzzle" parts are the highlight here, I loved traverseing this world, especially after binding jump to scrollwheel and just going ham- bunnyhopping is SO MUCH FUN. The weapons are cool, I really wanted an assault rifle though, and another shotgun probably. The end is cool, but leading up to it sucks ass. The last boss is super annoying and the tanky aliens aren't fun to fight.

It holds up surprisingly well, but "black mesa" is probably the better option. I had a lot of fun trying to break the game with my knowledge of CSGO surf and KZ stuff, and b-hopping in here was SUPER fun.

they should make a second game
