Combat gets repetitive though still very fun and challenging. Just after a few consecutive days it grows stale. Best played a handful of days at a time, casually, otherwise it quickly devolves into a third person combat-collectathon. Story was ok, but the idea of choices was heavily oversold.

Hogwarts Legacy had some high highs, low lows, and a whole lot in-between. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot to say about the game, as it ended up being a fairly mediocre experience.

As for the good, holy hell, the world they created is incredible. Just walking around Hogwarts, seeing the scale and attention to detail, was awe-inspiring. It was very immersive just walking around the castle as a student, which was exactly what I was hoping for out of the game. This extends to the open-world as well. Walking around Hogsmeade and flying around the map on my broomstick made me smile just a little bit every time. I am willing to make the claim that the broomstick is one of the best methods of open-world traversal in a game I've played. So yes, the playable space of this game is amazing. It's a shame then that the things you do in the world are boring and uninspired.

This is where I, unfortunately, have to address the negative points. There is so much worthless, time-wasting content in the open world. If it was just a boat load of Merlin Trials that dotted the map, it'd be fine, but then you add like ten more lifeless, copy-paste map markers with lame incentives to complete them? I am less forgiving of that. Most of this game's content felt like padding for the sake of extending runtime rather than actually giving the player something meaningful and interesting to do. This extends to the gear system. I am so sick of being handed piles of differently colored gear with minimal statistical differences in open-world games. It never adds anything. At least the different clothing options were cool, I just didn't need them tied to the limp gear system. Combat was occasionally interesting but was more style than substance. The story was also extremely forgettable, which sounds like it should be impossible given all of the interesting ideas you can use from this IP. I, sadly, found myself mostly mashing through dialogue through most of the game. The Sebastian questline was the one exception to this. These quests prove that the game is capable of compelling stories, characters, conflicts, and choices, and it's a shame that potential didn't extend anywhere else. I feel like that sentiment sums up this game. Hogwarts Legacy had some incredible potential, but it failed to live up to it in most respects. It feels like this game exists in-between the tension of developer passion for the IP and publisher mandates. I kind of wish this game was instead a smaller-scope Hogwarts student life sim instead of this everything-and-the-kitchen-sink game we got. I did have enough fun to see it through to the end, but just barely.

Huh. I guess I had more to say than I thought.

I just cant play it I just dont find it fun and dont want to

Most interested in exploring than the main story itself.

i literally can’t get past crossed wands 3

After a decade of waiting for a game to finally bring me into the wizarding world, I was left with disappointment as it couldn't live up to expectations. Still far better than every Harry Potter game, but lackluster as its own game with no endgame.

Sebastian, pookie, come back to me 💔

Mainly carried by the atmosphere and vibes. If you're not that into Harry Potter I don't recommend it.

I've always been a Potterhead (still have the 1st edition of the 1st book - the Portuguese translated version), I've read all the books, seen all the movies, played all the PC games, and still have some collectables (I still get shirts from the franchise till today too!). When I was younger, I even memorized spells and was fascinated by the creatures and world-building the Harry Potter universe has. Whether people like J.K. Rowling or not for her political views, she is a genius and one of my favourite writers of all time! I am eternally thankful for what she created, and all the magical stories she wrote!

Since ever, I've always dreamed about a game like this - a vast open world in and outside Hogwarts, where we can create our own character and pick her/his house + fly around on a broom or a creature. Hogwarts Legacy came to make my dream - and that of many other Potterheads - come true! I have no regrets about pre-ordering the Deluxe Edition, this is such a beautiful game!

I just have a few performance issues (my current specs are RTX 3070ti + 16GB 5200MHz DDR5 RAM + Ryzen 5 7600X + SSD Sata III), but I hope either NVidia releases drivers that fix this, or Avalanche Studios patches it up. Still, this does not take out the joy I have for this game!

>>EDIT: Increased my RAM to 32GB, it runs very smooth now with everything on Ultra + Ray Tracing!

There's a lot to explore, mysteries to solve, and spells to learn! Also, it's important to note that we can pet all the cats!!!

Truly an unforgettable experience, a game of the year!

very immersive but id rather explore hogwarts next time (do not buy)

Amazing game for big Harry Potter fans. The best parts are the graphics and the castle. Everything else is a little bit mid... RPG mechanics are not good, story is fine, and the combat is passable. Only play if you are a big Harry Potter fan.

The only way I can truly define Hogwarts Legacy is, it's the most lovingly, creatively and beautifully crafted lifeless franchise product I'll probably ever see.

When Portkey games and Avalanche software (not to be mistaken for Avalanche Studios of Just Cause fame) set out to develop this game, their mission was to make the ultimate Harry Potter, self-insert fantasy game. I can safely say that they succeeded in every facet for better and also for worse. Reason being that for every wonderfully creative solution and rewarding mechanic there is an equally "half-assed" part to tilt the scale back towards mediocrity. I put half-assed between quotation mark, because in truth, having a mechanic scientifically engineered to evoke a certain part of the Wizarding World fantasy, but not making it deep enough to hijack the experience is anything but half-assed.

Hogwarts Legacy is purpose built to be enjoyed casually. Booting it up from time to time to muck about in the open world until your magical animals that you are currently breeding (yes you can do that) clear their cooldown time, all while you are blasting dark poacher wizard camps, unlocking new cosmetic options or generally just enjoying the absolutely breathtaking Scottish Highlands (this game not having a photo mode is a crime against humanity). It is a damn good time with much to do ... too much to do.
Despite the developers best creative efforts, the open-world stuff quickly become tedious, especially since they went WAAY overboard with the collectibles and their way of collecting. Needless to say, this Platinum will remain uncollected even after 70 hours.

As a devoted Harry Potter fan, Hogwarts Legacy offers a captivating journey into the wizarding world. While not flawless, its stunning graphics and immersive gameplay make it an enjoyable experience overall. Customizing your character and exploring Hogwarts adds a personal touch, but occasional clunky controls and predictable story elements may detract slightly. Nonetheless, for fans craving a taste of magic, Hogwarts Legacy delivers an enchanting adventure worth embarking on.

This game took 2 full hours to get started. This game is perfectly designed for millennials who have little to no gaming experience, which is not me. I'm a bisexual boygirl who likes deus ex, this was not made for me.

After exploring Hogwarts, which is really cool, you're done with the game. Nothing else worth seeing.

Was really really enjoyng this game to its ceilling, so much that I got burned out of it. Being such a huge Barry Potter fan this game made me want to ser every corner and make every single Quest or marker that exists on the world map, this made me scramble hours and hours without envolving the main story which led to me loose the drive to continue play.
The atmosphere is unmatched, the world is full of life and details, you feel Magic, the combat is great and feels good, you have lots of secrets to uncover and lore to learn from the game that adds to people who like me never reais the books and only watched the movies.
Loved it, and want to return to finish it once and for all.

my girlfriend really likes it so it gets 5

If played on a console, this is probably a 3.5/5.

As a huge Harry Potter fan (fuck JKR), I wanted to like this game a lot more than I did but I struggled with it due to the bugginess of the PC port and the game's last 33% getting repetitive. The game is super fun for the first act due to you getting so many new things to do all at once, but as it goes on and you unlock pretty much all the spells, it does get dreary. This is not helped by the main dungeons being all really repetitive (which is odd given how extremely fleshed out some sidequests are). The bugs in the game were mostly annoying, but there was a bug I ran into twice where I'd just fall through the world that I was worried I'd have to restart my save to get over. Pretty unacceptable for 60$.

All that being said, the characters are alright, some pretty well-written, voice acting is nice, the immersion is fantastic, the graphics are pretty good and the core gameplay loop is actually really damn solid; no notes on the spell-slinging for me.

Fun game. Very large map. Felt very limited story wise. But character customization was top tier and so was combat.
