The game has solid ideas and a great ending, but it is ruined by the -very- repetitive gameplay unfortunately.

Also the PC version is bad...
Too many times have I had the mouse click on my second monitor despite being in fullscreen mode.
And there is no "Windowed Fullscreen" mode as well, which is a shame imo.

An open world Mafia game was a good idea, but making the map such a grand scale was a bit rough for mission traversal and the gameplay loop. I loved the story and characters, didn’t mind the loop, but the scale made it feel a bit more repetitive, especially with having to go 3,000m to my next point.

After playing the original when it was released, decided to revisit the franchise with the Definitive set. 1 and 2 were amazing, nostalgia inducing games but 3.. A huge disappointment. More bugs than I could count and I'm pretty sure I became a computer engineer just troubleshooting for this game... sad.

Can be a buggy mess but I was happy to see Vito’s story continued

Bit of a let down this mafia was. First one to go open world and it wasn’t great, very repetitive and the mission choices were poor and the same. Lincoln Clay was a good protagonist but it was a poor game in the mafia series. Nice to see Vito again tho.

its an alright game, but it definitely doesnt feel like a mafia game like the others in the franchise. i think theres too much action as opposed to storytelling and taking out the rackets in each district gets old and repetitive pretty easily.

Played on PS5

The most generous six out of 10 I can possibly give; I never want to play an open world game that is designed like this ever again (Google "Sunk Cost Fallacy"). The whiplash I felt between one of the greatest stories I've experienced in gaming and some of the most repetitive mind numbing tasks ever in an open world game was simultaneously infuriating and confusingly addicting.

The story, writing, and acting/animation is on par with the first two games in that it is fucking stellar! Every actor brings their A-game and the script itself expands upon the first two games' themes while being its own thing completely: taking down the Mafia from the outside as opposed to working your way through the ranks internally (which I thought was a cool way to differentiate itself from the previous games)! The design of the New Borudoux is super authentic to 1968 and the addition of actual Albums, Playboy mags / articles, and paintings from the era gives this game a phenomenal sense of authenticity and attention to time period detail.

When the game first started, I thought the side missions were going to be on par with the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Marvel's Spider-Man 2, but, unfortunately, as the game goes along it is very evident that all of the interesting cut-scenes and dialogues that you have with side NPCs are relegated to the first few missions and the cutscene quality within side missions downgrades exponentially (the cutscenes and their cinematography remain, however, more and more of them begin using the in-game animation, as opposed to the highly realistic pre-rendered cut scenes, which I assume is due to a lack of development time).

Completing a checklist of menial tasks over and over again for every single underboss in every district got tiring after the fourth hour of the game. Once a Racket’s checklist is completed, a main story mission (or two) is unlocked, but this method of dulling out the story was honestly so frustrating. I played for roughly 56 Hours completing all the main DLC story missions prior to the main missions themselves because they don't require nearly as much obnoxious shit to be done in order to progress (not to mention, the individual and partially isolated stories told within the DLC sections are exceptional and on par with the quality of the main story thematically and in presentation).

The main problem lies in the fact that the game tries to be more like an Ubisoft open world while maintaining the linear and exceptionally well done story of the first two Mafia games, and the balancing act completely fails because the same tasks are repeated at nauseam throughout the entire game besides a few street races or Rescue missions here and there. The fact that the game is no longer linear means that the lack of fast travel in the open world drags on as many tasks have you driving from one end of the map to the other and it's tedious as all hell. A balance could have worked, but thanks to this new skewed design, the cops and their interaction with the player has been significantly simplified from the previous games which is a shame; traffic laws hardly matter anymore as long as you don't hit anybody which takes away from the more realistic feeling world compared to GTA that this series was known for up until this point.

Driving itself is still fun and the gun-play is serviceable but the only reason I stuck with the game for so long is because the story gripped me from the start (the first 3 hours felt like a traditional Mafia game before the bloated and repetitive mission structure began to take over). I liked the ending I got...
...with Lincoln leaving town & Vito ruling the city.

The game, for the most part looks beautiful, but runs sloppily even on PlayStation 5. The Weather changes are sporadic and very glitchy, and a lot of the time reflections don't work properly coupled with a draw distance that clips environments/models in and out (while I got used to it, it was very distracting for the first dozen or so hours).

If you can get this game on sale and really liked the first two games, I would definitely say try it out and make up your own opinion. By the end I was rushing through some of the tasks on an easier difficulty to experience the story, because completing everything to 100% completion is mind numbing and in my opinion not very fun. With all that said, however, the game was very ambitious and my final score reflects the craft in the art direction, period detail, and how much I enjoyed the story.

P.S. I loved the radio stations, but the songs repeated themselves waaaaay too often, but I do understand licensing popular Classic Rock & Blues from the 60's is probably a lot more expensive than the jazz and early rock 'n' roll of the 40s and 50s from the previous two games.

The base story is a documentary type video that goes over what Lincoln Clay did, and I did like it, seeing all these people try to make the most of a world that creates monsters, both how the US government and the Mafia played a role in the creation of what Lincoln becomes. While the Hatian Mob, and the IRA were neat starting out they did not get much characterization that wasn't locked behind a tedious grind. Vito though, while I do think him meeting a grizzly end is better, Lincoln is not that guy to give it to him, so him giving Vito hope works better. It was also neat seeing the bad guys and how they develop as Lincoln slowly destroys their empire. Where it falls apart is the gameplay loop, shit is just so annoying to deal with, "do x and go to x until reach number" is just so soul sucking and you have to drive from one end of the map to the other god fuck. The cover shooting is at its best but everything else, from variety to fucking melee is take to pre Mafia 1 levels. If this was all streamlined I could easily have put this up there with Mafia 2, maybe even above it.

Fun at times, really good shooting and driving system but other than that just bland. Didn't like any of the characters, didn't like the lazy story telling of flashing back and forth. Just felt lost and everything was a chore

Eh.
Although I did spend around 32 hours in this (completing most dlc too), I probably won't return to this.

Stealth is fun, combat fun, very repetitive but eventually learned to embrace it. The story is great, however the middle part of the game is so fucking shit aswell as the DLCs. Several graphic glitches, poor facial animations etc. When the games looks good it looks really good, but not always the case.

Even though I have plenty of issues with this game, I somehow still found it so fun? I'm actually surprised myself at why I kept playing even though the game didn't offer new mechanics. I just like stealth I guess, which this games does pretty good. Guns are very awesome too and I liked the wheel of perks from the different factions.

Solid okay game, wouldn't recommend it though as I acknowledge that most people will not be able to find the fun I found in this.

I just love the gameplay. I know, it's repetetative, but it works for me.

shit feels like a chore ....might finish it later

A good game, but a bad Mafia game.

I played on hard difficulty with simulation driving. I completed the main story, all the races, and the Faster, Baby! DLC.

This game is really bad. Going in, the main thing I heard about the game was that the missions are repetitive and man, that is a fucking understatement. Essentially, our goal is to kill the big bad mobster, but to do that we have to take care of each of his underbosses, and to get at each of them we have to take care of the people under them and so on, until it gets to we have to do a series of EXTREMELY repetitive tasks in order to get at the lowest level boss. Every task is basically go up to a place and there's bad guys there. There is essentially no variation on this. This shit reminded me of Assassin's Creed 1. The main story missions feel like throwaway filler side quests in an open world game. And then I checked out one of the side quests and it was even more side-quest-y (go find me 3 of this kind of car). Once you've done enough shitty filler missions, you go fight through a bunch of guys to kill whatever boss and then repeat the whole process. After the prologue, there's only a few levels that feel like any thought at all was put into them. And at its core, it's just a mediocre third person shooter. The shooting felt frustrating more often than it felt fun.

The story really fits the gameplay in that it is also terrible. We start with an interesting prologue that sets up our protagonist's motivation for revenge, and we end with enacting said revenge, having become the biggest mob boss in town, and then getting to choose if we stay and replace what we destroyed, or leave and put all this behind us. That's all good, but for the middle 18 hours there's basically nothing. Like Assassin's Creed 1, it's just a loop of "we gotta kill this guy but first we gotta do all these tasks", and after you go through that a few times you get a BIG GUY to kill but none of these people are characters that matter, they're just levels. And Marcano, the big bad boss, doesn't really seem to care or fight back at any point. We don't get any interaction with him since the prologue. The game fails to make me care about any of the characters or any of the plot. Even in an emotional scene where I've had to kill one of my underbosses because they turned against me because I didn't give them any districts, I do not care. Way too much of this game is people talking about shit I couldn't care less about.

Our protagonist, Lincoln Clay, is not interesting. Most of his loved ones got killed by Marcano and so he's getting revenge by killing Marcano (which requires killing a LOT of other people first). And that's basically it. Lincoln's never remorseful about all the people he's killing on his quest. He never grapples with whether he's worse than his enemies. And I don't really care about him. He's a pretty bad guy.

Every time I play a game like this it baffles me how a developer could possibly think this is good. At least AC1 was the first in the series. They improved that shit right away. This is Mafia THREE and so much of it feels like a shitty first draft. Like ya okay he works his way through dismantling Marcano's organization racket by racket. That's a good idea, but we can't just be doing the same shit over and over. Let's go back to the writer's room and try to come up with some interesting things to happen in the game please.

Now for some positives. The game looks pretty good, but there's a lot of pop-in to the point that it's consistently distracting. The radio is nothing but bangers. The simulation driving is great, and the races are fun, so much so that I did them all, and I rarely do optional content when I dislike a game this much. I accidentally did the Faster, Baby! DLC story (the DLC missions are presented as main story missions) and that was good. It was right after a major milestone in the game, so I was hopeful that only the first part of the game was garbage and the rest of the game would be good like that mission. Oh how wrong I was.
Overall this game is incredibly disappointing. There's a fair amount of potential in it. I could imagine a game where the way you take down the mob, choosing which rackets to take down and which underbosses to give them to, and the mob striking back at you in different ways depending on your decisions is all very interesting and strategic, but that isn't this game. This game is bad.

As a Mafia enjoyer I would say this is not good :(

This game is interesting. It has a ton of visual bugs, it gets pretty repetitive along the way, specially the underboss missions to increase income, I could only do about 3 of those before I ran out of pacience.

However, despite all that, this is the best game in the series I think. Best story for sure, best gameplay, even if it's not as focused as 1 or as engaging as 2.

Definitely worth a play

Jogado no Xbox series S

I played this back when it first released, originally in 2016, and remembered it being very repetitive. However, playing it again with the DLC, it made it feel less flat. Overall, fun game with a decent story.

it starts of so good and becomes soooo bad. Which is a shame because it is the best game story wise and mechanics wise it just becomes so repetitive and turns into a modern day assassins creed game, almost every mission is the same with the same setup. really disappointing.

12H 33M played

Nothing like Mafia I or II that I loved. I couldn't get used to the controls or how the game mechanics changed to begin with.

With its immature ridiculous dialogue and characters, I can’t help to think this game was designed for anyone but teenagers..
Unlike the other two Mafia games, this feels like a regular gangster game or a GTA ripoff, without any of the maturity of mobster culture.
Its impression of the 70s also feels hollow, compared to the vivid complexity of the 30s/40s and 50s time periods of previous instalments.

Play style can be engaging but adds nothing different in terms of level progression. Missions feel repetitive and lack diversity in plot points or nuanced game set pieces, making its central story suffer dramatically.
Visually it is quite bland also, making the world seem dull and uneventful.
- This also goes for the games main lead character Lincoln Clay, jeez what a bore..

A highly forgettable experience!
