this game is so fucking boring... i love the first game but whenever i think "huh, i should probably finish the second game" i realise that it means i have to actually play the game to finish it, and i quickly change my mind

Intankavel a inexistência de viewtiful joe 3...

When I finished the original VJ I wrote that it was a crime that this series hasn't seen a sequel in 18 years.
While I still think that's true, I can see why. This game is almost a copy paste of the original, with the additional playable character of Sylvia. Unfortunately Sylvia feels extremely weak compared to Joe and I can't say I really used her for anything other than when necessary.
Obviously the game is solid, and there are many good things to be said but I've said them all in my original review - which for me is the main issue, nothing new.

Joe and Silvia are so cool! I wish straight people were real...

not as good but still really good

Same skill issue as with Viewtiful Joe 1. Don't want to deal with lives.

It is, honestly, almost impressive how much worse than the original this manages to be, and it's not even as though the first VJ is that good of a game to begin with.

Man. They kind of dropped the ball with this one. The game looks and plays identically to the first game, which honestly isn't a problem so long as theres new stuff to go through, fun levels, and interesting bosses. This game doesn't really deliver on most of that. Levels are very strangely designed, with most levels having long difficult first acts followed by shorter, easier later acts. It makes a lot of the levels feel unbalanced as you struggle initially to breeze through the rest of each level. The bosses are pretty standard fare, though they do basically almost reuse an entire boss from the previous game, which wasn't that exciting. You can play as Silvia and tag out between the two characters at any time, but Silvia's moveset isn't as expansive or versatile as Joes so its best to stick with Joe IMO. The only way I could really recommend this is if you are a HUGE fan of the first game and need SOMETHING fresh to play, in which case go for it I guess. Otherwise, just stick with the first one.

a pointless sequel that does nothing to improve the forumla but only prolong and worsen it

I simply cannot wrap my head around this game.

Viewtiful Joe 2 takes the formula from the first game and adds plenty of quality of life improvements. Unfortunately, I felt that the boss design wasn't as sharp as the first game and it didn't leave quite as large of an impact on me.

Viewtiful Joe 2 improves on the originals formula of controlled viewtiful fighting, but it does little to actually improve the flaws the first had. Fights can still be very tedious if you don't know how to hit the enemy properly, and the puzzles are nearly as bad as the first with a lot guess work and wondering what exactly you do to solve this puzzle. Viewtiful Joe 2 had a lot of potential to be great, but it just ends up being a good affair.

This game doesn't shine like its predecessor, but it's still awesome!

Everything about the first one is here but, while it may feel too similar, it's still fun, charming and challenging as ever. If you are a fan of the first one, you owe it to yourself to continue the adventure. But the game has its share of bad things. Sylvia, for example, is useless. The unlockables aren't as good as the in the first game. Repetition of bosses sucks and there are TOO MANY annoying puzzles.

Like I said, those things prevent it from shining like its predecessor, but if you're a fan of the first one, you'll definitely enjoy this one too.

Viewtiful Joe 3 is never happening and it's forever sad

i think i had to sell my PS2 before i finished this back in the day - and im STILL hanging on to it in hopes of finishing someday. love these games

More of the same as the first title. Slyvia is a cool addition, but not a fun character to play. Some of the puzzles are too complicated. Highly recommend not playing this immediately after the first one.

VJ1, but a little bit worse. The big new addition is a second playable character you can swap into by tagging, which is a cool idea, but she’s really not that fun (and the original VJ actually has a lot of secret characters you can replay the game with, which this one lacks completely). Level design’s a little frustrating but the puzzles are even more bafflingly illogical, and for the rest the game is literally just the same. So, VJ1 but a little bit worse. Shame we never got that third game, though.

Flawed sequel to an absolute classic, but a great game in its own right. Introduces a new power and character swapping mid-level, which are what you want in a sequel.

Nowhere near as good as the first, but the game is still VJ so it's kinda fun on a base level. It's still lacking any substance the first game had and if didn't have the rocking new tracks I'd be willing to slap it lower tbh.

"Wow, el primer Viewtiful Joe fue increíble, no puedo esperar a ver qué nuevos jefes, escenarios, puzzles, habilidades y enemigos me esperan en el segundo juego"

Literalmente Viewtiful Joe 2:

Honestly worse in every way than VFJ1 (does anyone even call it this lol) but has like one of my favorite endings in a game. A game that understands the importance of curating art.

An improved version of an already awesome game with a new story

HENSHIN AROUND

not as tight as the first, though.

Pretty clever at the time and some neat ideas but not like a stone cold classic.
