Super Mario Land 2 has a lot heart put into it, and for that alone I enjoyed it so much. It's nothing crazy, there are only 6 main worlds, 2 powerups, it's pretty easy and simple to get through, and really short, but I still really enjoyed this one.

I never played the first land game, but I have seen it in action, and what a graphical upgrade. Not only in terms of the looks, but in terms of settings as well. Mario Land 2 has one of, if not the best worlds for a Mario game to this day. A world where you go into a house as a mini Mario, a toy Mario world where you go up it with there being other toys inside as well, along with a water world with a submarine level, with other great choices as well. It's easily my favorite thing from this game.

The game only has 2 powerups with one being the established fire flower, and the other being the new rabbit power up, which lets you float down. I guess you could say it's just a worse tanooki suit, but I think it's used well throughout the game.

Before I go since I don't feel like I have too much to say on the game, I just got a funny question to ask. Where did Mario get a whole castle? How did Wario even get his hands on it. What was Mario doing, going out for a walk or something? It's just so funny, especially since this is Wario's first game which means that he just showed up here with no one knowing him, as an evil big version of Mario... I'm really sitting here thinking about the lore of Mario. I don't know if that's funny or sad.

Def the biggest difficulty spike in Nintendo history. How do you go from easy as hell, to whatever the fuck Wario's castle is

I don't know why I completed this game 100%,

I enjoyed Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. The movement felt great for a handheld mario game in the 90s (and it has Mario worlds spin jump which was cool). The new power-up was pretty cool, with it being somewhat like a fusion of both the cape feather and the super leaf from the previous Mario games. I liked how unique the world themes were, with the space world, haunted house world and Mario mech world to name some. My main issue with the game was how unmemorable the levels were. I have played all of the levels in this game before this play-through, but I remembered none of them this play-through (other than the second space level which was fantastic).

Fun ideas but still not that interesting and quite short

Coming off the first one! I would say that this game didn’t live up to the hype. I guess the gameplay is slightly better, but that’s a given. I found this one boring in both aesthetics and music, compared to the first game.

I recall a pretty solid platforming experience without being as weird as the first Super Mario Land. Soundtrack is good, but so many songs sharing the same melody does get old after a while.

the short length and nonlinear structure of this game make it perfectly suited to short handheld sessions. as someone who has played world 1 of mario way more than the rest of the game, mario land 2 feels like getting six different versions of world 1, each with a creative visual theme that is unique for the series. of course, the tradeoff of this structure is that the game can't really build complexity over time, the difficulty curve is flat and there's no truly great levels, just a bunch of pretty good ones.

It does not feel like a Mario game, it's more like a generic platformer. But it is a GOOD generic platformer. Way better than the first game.
