For a game that’s entire premise is built around exploration, Starfield failed to give me any motivation to explore its endless but mostly empty planets. What I love about Bethesda’s other games is that so much of your time is spent exploring the environments on the way to your objectives. And in Starfield that essential element seems to have been replaced with navigating a messy menu system and pressing on dots that represent empty planets where you may or may not have a boring combat encounter.

It’s also disappointing that in a world where humanity has apparently evolved past war, the game seems to want you to spend most of your time just shooting people and taking their guns. And unfortunately the gameplay feels sluggish and clunky mostly due to the miserable 30fps the game is stuck at. There’s parts of the game that make me see the epic and groundbreaking space RPG that it wants to be, but it’s just never quite original or innovative enough to stand out above other games like it.
