A 2D XCOM, inspired by Firefly, and a spiritual successor to one of the 3DS E-Shops best games, Steamworld Heist is a rare indie that gets it all right. The gameplay loop is just perfect, manually aiming your shots in order to ricochet off walls and get headshots or collateral kills is immensely satisfying, and there's enough weapon variety to keep it from getting old.

It's one of those games with such a solid gameplay loop, like Doom 2016, Rhythm Heaven or Mario 64, that my review could basically just be: "Play this game". The art style is great, the soundtrack is fairly solid, the plot is a little thin, but still decent enough for what it is. My main problems are the harsh punishments for failure (I believe half of all your money), but you shouldn't even need money too much anyways. The other problem is that certain mechanics still have a degree of randomness that is otherwise absent from the game, namely Beatrix's double shot, which has sent a couple mission ruining missles at teammates.

All in all, this is easily the most bang for your buck indie game at a sale price of under 5 dollars. There's nothing quite like it, and it's available on everything. I highly recommend spending the extra dollar on the Outsider DLC, even though its just a character and a few missions. Its seamlessly intergrated into the campaign, so definitely have it before starting.
