i think that this game was overall a pretty great experience, but there is a lot of things that I feel it misses the mark on. I did a similar playthrough as my original experience with undertale where I played through the game pacifist, then genocide.

for a game derivative of undertale, undertale yellow doesn't really understand why a lot of things in undertale are layed out the way they were. first off, I think it was very annoying how just because I didn't kill anyone, the game pretty much forced me into the true pacifist ending, It felt like the characters were just like dragging me to random places or keeping me in their town as the deputy even though I didn't like agree to it. even though I obviously would have, it took a lot of the decision making away from me and made me feel disconnected from the story, something undertale itself never struggled with. it actually made me pretty pissed at the ending when clover gives up their soul.

undertale yellow's characters were just unlikable for me, I think it was smart that in undertale, characters like undyne and papyrus are obsessed with capturing or killing you until you break through their preconceptions through your kindness and the lengths you will go not to kill them. never once in my first playthrough did I ever think about killing even one of these characters, but omg undertale yellow kinda did lol. Both ceroba and starlo make friends with you and are pretty nice to you the entire time until they realize they stand to benefit from outright murdering you and betray you immediately to take your soul. and these two take up so much time with their backstories and goals it overshadows your own quest and flowey just straight up disappears for the last part of the game. with ceroba planning to take your soul the entire time because you were pure of heart and didn't kill anyone (also dumb plotpoint) I just can't get behind the way that this game ended. clover shoulda bitch slapped her a tthe end she literally melted her own daughter and then tries to kill me to fix her. undertale gives you the option to hug asriel, but undertale yellow does not give you the option to hug ceroba clover just does it, which I straight up just wouldn't have done if I had the option. i think that moment sums up my opinion on this ending.

I think that something I love about the undertale is how lonely and sad the soundtrack can get especially in the first 4 areas with it kind of ramping up near the end. Undertale Yellow's soundtrack is still really really good, but that sense of loneliness and emotion is kind of gone, it goes from remixed ruins theme which is pretty good I think it works for an alt path, to a beautiful rendition of snowy once you leave the ruins. Which is a great track BUT I think that it is much much worse placement than the original, snowdin is my favorite area and the original song being simple and lonely is a great introduction to the underground as a whole undertale's soundtrack while being extremely catchy also gives you that same sense that the monsters have, they're making the best of what they have but they aren't happy. Undertale yellow's soundtrack is like BEAUTIFUL WINTER WONDERLAND OOOOOOOO. FUN DESERT EPIC COWBOY YEEHA. FUNKY MINE.

regardless of these opinions (there's more but I ain't making a video here it's a backloggd post) I think this game will stick with me for a long time I just needed to vent about the things I didn't like about this game.

It's fun if you have people to play with, but it is a pretty big downgrade from Stick of Truth and Fractured But Whole.

P.T.

2014

This is better than most of Kojima's actual, full-fledged games

Its over..... I've played this game for 3 years, ever since it was first released, it feels so surreal that the story is over now and I loved every second of it. This very well is my favorite DrakeNieR experience i have ever had, heres to more of this wonderful franchise ^_^ This game gave many answers to many mysteries that plagued this franchise, as well as lead its own story with a completely unexpected but totally believable antagonist. I will forever remember this game and all that i had experienced with it, all the friends i found through it, all the stories i read, every single thing makes this such a wonderful game.

In my opinion, this is the definitive version of Dragon Quest IV. It has all the content of the DS version, plus the party chat feature that was cut at the last minute from the DS version. It can also be played on tablets, too. Square, re release this on Switch, and I'll definitely buy it again.

Virtually identical to the DS version so equally good.

Been a good 7 or so years since I first (and last) played Dragon Quest IV (the DS version), and I didn't remember much except that I really liked it. I've been making my way back through the Dragon Quest series and it was time for IV, and my initial thoughts were "oh yeah, the one before the Best One™️" and, whilst I still like Dragon Quest V more than IV, I forgot just how good this game is. Especially actually having party chat this time around! I can't believe I missed out on all this extra dialogue! 13 year old me would have been pissed if I knew how much I was missing!
Anywho, Dragon Quest IV is so much more than just "the one that comes before V". It's a masterpiece in its own right. It's one of the only JRPGs I've 100% completed because it just drew me in that much. Phenomenal Dragon Quest game, and a phenomenal JRPG.

Just to clarify, by 100% completion I mean getting all of the mini medal rewards, completing the Pioneer Town side quest, filling out the Big Book of Beasts, completing the Sands of Time/Liquid Metal Sword sidequest, and completing the sixth chapter. I did not max out the levels of my party lol

good adventure. liked to find out what to do next. also cool chapter system.

this game gets clowned on a lot, but it's a fun rpg! give it a try!

Definitely not a masterpiece, but people treat it as if it was the worst game in the world for some reason, undeserved, really.

more like backshot roulette

I haven't been this conflicted about a video game in a while. On one end, this is more of a Final Fantasy VII Remake, which I greatly enjoyed on a gameplay level. This game really expands on that game's world and characters in a way that surpasses the original VII, even, I think. I genuinely do appreciate it, but fuck me, man, what the hell is this main story? I know it's the second part of a three-part story, so I'll let it slide a bit more than usual, but goddamn, man, it's such a mess as a stand-alone plot and especially a stand-alone ending. It's unavoidable, given how this remake is structured, but it still bothers me to no end; the ending is just not satisfying in the slightest on its own. Not to even mention the absolute hell that is the pacing of the main plotline. It's the same issue in Part I, but at least there, it was far less noticeable. Some of the mini-game and side quests are somewhat aggravating as well, but not to a major degree. The plot and ending really drag this one down for me, but hey, maybe once the final part is out, I'll see what's going on here in a better light. for now, it's a really sour note on an otherwise pretty great game, I think.

That all said, Sailor Barret is the best part of the whole game, so 10/10. Great job, Square.

I didn't think I would dislike anything more than Persona 4 but here we are.

Gameplay: Based on the demo, the combat was a bit better than the first part of the Remake, but it was still pretty dogshit. It feels too slow and the mechanics are not fun to play with at all imo. However, playable Sephiroth made this unbearably horrible combat fun for at least a little while. I'm genuinely unsure how anyone can sit down, play this game, and think "yeah, this is good". Final Fantasy XVI's combat (or Square Enix's best action combat system: Kingdom Hearts II) should be the standard going forward for future FF titles since VIIR's combat is so unbearable I refuse to play this game beyond the demo, and just decided to watch cutscenes on YouTube instead. They also added more unnecessary, long walks basically Sony-fying this game just like the first part which is ironic since some of the weebs who praise this Remake trilogy complain about said Sony games.

Story: Some things were done better than Remake, some done worse. I would say the filler for the most part wasn't as bad as Remake's. There were some nice additions such as how they included Yuffie into the story. However, the filler still holds this game back a lot by making the story much slower paced than the original. I find it ironic that the complaints for FFXVI being slow paced aren't applied to this trilogy when this is objectively A LOT slower. They are taking a roughly 30 hour story and padding it out to ~120 hours, assuming Part 3 is also ~40 hours which is also uncertain currently since the first two parts only cover the first disc of the game, and there are still two discs remaining. The third part might be a lot longer than Part 1 and 2 in order to cover the rest of the story. Anyways, I would say the story is better than Remake's story overall until the ending. The ending really ruined the whole game I feel. Not sure why they decided to add timeline shenanigans which really brought down the story a lot. This trilogy's story is worse than even KH Re:Coded.

It's hard to say if I like Remake or Rebirth more, but they are both garbage anyway so i guess it doesn't really matter. This trilogy is a horrible remake and these two games (and probably the third one) are my least favorite games ever. I'm fully convinced the praise for this trilogy is just due to the good graphics and FFVII bias since I genuinely don't see any positive qualities. It feels like a complete disrespect to the original FFVII (which I'm not even a huge fan of so don't go saying "YoU jUsT cAn'T aCcEpT cHaNgE" or any other bs).

I hope the rumored FFIX Remake gets canceled because I don't want to see my favorite FF get butchered so badly. I'd rather play a shoddy remake like Pokémon BDSP or Let's Go.

i might play more with friends, but it's as generic a survival game as you can imagine made by some of the most soulless just doing it for a quick buck devs in the industry. i don't particularly care about the stolen pokemon designs (they are bad though) but the whole game is filled with stolen ideas and concepts with almost no spin on it. i don't doubt people genuinely find it fun, but it's as soulless and greedy as their previous game craftopia but because there's pokemon and they can hold a gun it sold 7 million copies and counting! sad for the industry, and the people acting like this is some special new indie company making a huge ambitious game and not their like 4th asset flip garbage hoping it catches on to make some money is pretty silly. i realize i'm part of the problem playing it at all, even if i did do it though gamepass. also, the gamepass version is behind on updates and entirely broken and pretty unplayable with friends almost certainly on purpose to push people to spend real money for it on steam (which judging by reviews is working!) and that sucks. idk, this is the most bitter i've been in a review and i don't really think less of anyone who is playing it and enjoying it because i understand it's just a kind of fun trendy game but i guess it's just the entire circumstance around this game that really bums me out.
