Since i'm comparing it to what it was based on, it feels obvious to me that the original is better. The physics in this game feel much to heavy to be a faithful recreation of the games they were making. However, if it was an entirely new game, I don't think I'd mind.

RPGs don't have to be turn based, and this is an excellent example of that fact.
