True to its title, A Short Hike is short game that follows Claire, a bird on vacation taking a hike up a mountain trail as she unwinds -- or tries to unwind -- from the ongoing events of her life. It can be very simply explained as a collectathon with hints of Animal Crossing: Claire needs power-ups to be able to reach the top of the mountain, power-ups that can be found in the various trails, traded for with the other animals or earned by partaking in various minigames. All the while, the game isn't really forcing you to do anything, and you can spend your time just talking to the other animals, gliding around, or fishing.

It's unpretentious fun with a cozy atmosphere and a touch of emotion that can easily fit into one gaming night. Just be warned, if picking up the PS4 version, that it has a nasty save bug that cost me my save file. As soon as the game begins, test if the game lets you Save and Quit, lest you lose all your progress later and have to restart from scratch.
