Dragons Dogma II is a great game overall, with a few flaws that started to irritate me the more I played the game.

The gameplay itself feels great, responsive and every attack feels heavy, as if there is real weight behind it. Exploration is rewarding in the sense that it's really intriguing to see what the world has to offer, what big monsters it hides and what cinematic scenario will unfold. I really loved it up until about the 20-hour mark. Fighting the same enemies every 5 meters and not really getting anything of value was a bit demotivating to say the least. Still, I really liked it, and this part of the game is why I'll probably finish some remaining quests.

The story, though, what happened there anyway? The story was like this: 5 little infiltration quests, go talk to this random guy, farm 15 stones, here you have a sword and boom, final boss. It all felt extremely rushed, underdeveloped and not really explained. Why did we have to fight the Talos? Who the hell is Phaesus? I reached Batahl and wanted to play the story just a tad bit more, and suddenly the credits rolled. The last 5 quests were so uneventful and sudden that I couldn't believe it, actually.

So the story is a point of criticism, but not a big one, because I didn't play the game for the story, but for the world, the exploration, and the gameplay. I enjoyed all of these aspects of the game, but they failed to create something that really stood out.

It's wild how much content is locked behind a secret ending, in a "new" area that's also time limited.

In a game stunted by enemy variety, it's pretty bold to put a handful of cool boss monsters behind something that I'm going to assume a lot of players wont see?

Sometimes your coolest ideas are best left on the drawing board.

Rogue Trader the best, and only, Warhammer RPG on the market. I had some really high highs with this game. Unfortunately, I also had some pretty low lows.

The game is fantastic. The combat, sound, writing, and story are extremely punchy. Owlcat has done an amazing job incorporating the Warhammer setting into an RPG that encapsluates all that makes Warhammer great. There are no happy endings in the grim dark future, and this game does not shy away from making your RT make hard calls. Doing the "right" thing will lead to disasterous consquences while being a self interested money grubbing Rogue Trader will see you standing at the head of the Expanse with no peers to rival your power.

Unfortunately, latter half of the game is still a bit rough. Act 5 in particular seems a little tacted on the end of the story with little explanation as to why exactly you should be interested in participating. The pennaltumiate climax of the story boils down to a long coversation where the villain, ally, whatever explains the plot of the game to you and finally draws all the threads together. The last boss fight is fine, but nothing compared the epic battle that wraps out Act 4. There are also a lot of plot threads just sort of left to the ether, unless the player takes some VERY specific companions to the right dungeons with absolutely no in game clues as to who you should bring where.

TLDR: Rogue Trader is a bit of a mess at the end. My first playthrough took around 105 hours after completing all the quests and picking through each area. 20 hours could have easily been shaved off this game. That being said, I enjoyed every moment in the Kronos Expanse. I'll definitely be back for a second playthrough when the dlc drops.

Oh boy, this game.

This game is great. There is no if, ands, or buts around that. There is a however though. The companions are as loveable as they are memorable. I loved working through their stories, and creating this found family among the party. The overall story was well written. I had fun at every twist and turn and never really found myself stumbling except near the very end.

Here comes the however, MASSIVE SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT.

However.

The ending of the game fell flat on its face. This game is so solid up until this point. The story is gripping, the fights flashy and challenging for experience CRPG players. But the first cracks begin to show right after you confront the netherbrain for the first time. The Emperor's character falls flat on his ass by betraying you immediately after you tell him you don't trust him. If you side with Orpheus, he immediately agrees to work with you and become an illithid for you with no hesitation. A little weird, but okay.

Then the ending happens. The companions that you have worked so hard to get to this point get about a line each in the end. One line, maybe two or three. I did every quest I could. I maxed every companion (except Minthara) and yet, you don't really get much out of it. One line.

I romanced Shadowheart, and all you get is a single line at the end of the game. Then the credits roll. No ending cards. No clue into what happens to the companions you've been adventuring with for the last 100 hours. The. Game. Just. Ends.

Withers gets to talk mad shit though.

Overall, the game is a fantastic 8/10. It's worth your time in every way, and it makes a great introduction into the worlds of CRPs. Please, if you have the time and the money, experience this game for yourself. But the ending fumbled. Hard. So an 8/10 is as high as it goes.

HEY! Here's an update!

The Epilogue added in recent updates (at the time of writing), fixed a lot of things that I was complaining about at first. However, after second and now half a third playthrough, I think I will be sticking with my original score. BG 3 is a massive game with a lot of love put into it. It is a shame that some of the characters seem to be lacking some of that content while others are recieving unndeed tweeks and changes. Wyll, my love, you deserve better. More content for the Blade of Frontiers please.

I love this game, the unbalanced and sheer amount of freedom it gives you in gameplay and story is unmatched. In may ways, this is the perfect representation of D&D 5e. A great system that just doesn't quite hit some of the marks.
