In an alternate universe, Moira Burton and Chloe Price would be the best of friends.

I was really looking forward to playing this, as I really love rpgs/jrpgs, tactics combat and good stories, but man this really did not do it for me. I started with Edo Japan and that level was so boring and the combat was so brainless. It’s barely tactics combat. Obviously you’re not mashing buttons (because that’s just not how the combat is set up), but the most I’ve had to do is move down one square so that the enemy couldn’t hit me (just out of their attack range) and they’d have to keep moving down one and not be able to attack - that was on Edo Japan which is supposed to be the last of the 7 that you’re supposed to play.
I love anthologies (or at least the idea of them) but the two stories that I really gave a good try (Edo Japan and then Imperial China, since the latter was supposed to be a good one to start with) were utterly boring and unfun. I don’t mean to be a meanie, but I also kinda slightly do since I saw how rude people were to someone who liked octopath traveler more (who also gave a good argument as to why they personally did). I fell asleep during imperial china! And I was looking forward to playing games all day!
I love turn based rpg combat, but I do not like how this game does that. It feels too loose and underdeveloped with the action meter thingy (which is all the combat is kinda based upon), and from what I played it never advanced upon at all. There’s also things to make it more complex like effects (paralysis, poison etc.) but they’re only there if you want to use them, there’s not an incentive to do so unless if you want to ~spice~ things up.
That is the exact opposite of a little game I like to call Fae Tactics which is SO rewardingly complex with different systems! That game is a lot longer to be fair, but it also seems like Live A Live doesn’t add anything to its combat until the very end, which is not interesting from the start (in my opinion).
I’m just bitter because I really wanted to like this game, but it’s just not doing it for me whatsoever, meanwhile people LOVE this game. I’m very happy for those people, but maybe just don’t be a jerk to people who don’t like this game who also give good reasons as to why? I probably didn’t do that, but leave those other people alone who are expressing their opinions in a honest and considerate way! (Also If you’re reading this and love tactics/rpgs, then give Fae Tactics a try - so underrated and very, very fun!).

I love this game so much. I love all these characters and I’m upset I have to leave them again. Part of me wants to live in this world (at least a little bit). It has such an amazing cast of characters, I love Jonah - but Val will always be the one for me. Ideally though, it would be me Val and Jonah, and also Seven as like my flirtatious buddy. But, the beauty of boyfriend dungeon is, you don’t really have to choose. Whether you choose to keep it strictly platonic or not (or maybe like by accident because you didn’t pick up on the EXTREMELY obvious cues the game is telling you, but you’re so used to dating sims psyching you out that you chose the wrong choice (for you)) you could still be with and choose everyone. You can still hang out with them and “show them your love” as the game says.
This game has really given me a different point of view on polyamory that I has stayed with me. It also affirmed my sexual orientation when I really needed it most. Not to mention how the soundtrack still gets stuck in my head often (and I mean OFTEN) and I played the game almost a year ago now. It introduced me to one of my favorite artists (Madeleine McQueen) who I honestly think has the voice of an angel.
I love this game so much, and I don’t care what anyone says. It’s special and so outgoingly queer, which you really don’t see in much media these days. Everybody is just open to love (without question) and I think that’s really beautiful. (And by “without question” I mean your gender won’t hold you back from dating ANYBODY, which is awesome.) Ugh, I’m going to really miss these characters again. I love you Boyfriend Dungeon ❤️

P.S. I added this to IGDB (my first game to do so too, because I got tired of waiting for someone else to do it)
P.S.S. They were NOT kidding when they said this DLC got a bit raunchy, huh?

Final P.S. It’s okay if you don’t like a game - that opinion is valid - but I really don’t want to hear the boyfriend dungeon hatred anymore, so let’s hope those people don’t play the dlc, and it stays healthily positive over here 😊

Would’ve been four stars if this free dlc did not force me to delete all of my save data to continue playing a game that was paid for. Extremely disappointed and extremely annoyed.

I swear if I hear someone else call me a heartless piece of crap for wanting two queer characters ALIVE and happy together at the end (at the expense of one make believe town) I’m going to freaking explode. Besides the bury the gay trope, it’s still a very good game.

Such a fantastic game that I cannot stop thinking about. I highly recommend you play this game while sick, I did and it just made this game feel even more mystical (and mythical)! It’s astounding to me all the work that went into this game. It was originally a turn-based rhythm rpg and eventually turned into a word-based branching path story game after making the tough decision to scrap several months of previous work. There was an insane amount of revising to make that word charm system work seamlessly, and that painstaking spirit is very prevalent throughout the whole game. Bits and pieces from past storylines are effortlessly placed in the dialogue, and you are kept on your toes because you have absolutely no idea which path is the right one, or what piece of the puzzle you might discover. This game is so twisty and absurd that it feels extremely difficult to keep track of every little detail and when the player/reader finds out about it, that I can only imagine the devs and writers have a cork board with yarn going EVERYWHERE. This game really took me by surprise. I originally wasn’t the biggest fan of the art style, but it grew on me immensely as more gameplay mechanics unraveled and I started falling for the story and many of the characters (Dawn is my girl!). I love this game so much and I really can’t stop thinking about it. I want to show it to my family, I recommended it to my one friend, this game will not let go of me and I’m so glad it won’t (because I’m not willing to let go of it either!). This game is truly special and is a masterclass in storytelling and world-building in only a few hours.

Please do yourself a favor and play this game. It’s on game pass if you have it (which honestly you should because it’s how I’ve been playing the majority of my 2022 releases this year, and it’s like a fun subscription box when you get your games (which it literally is, but whatever)). This game feels so magical and is kinda like Grimm’s Fairytales in its mysticism. It really feels like no other game I’ve played. The only thing I could maybe compare it to is Night in the Woods, but not really for story (I also haven’t played it in a while and want to replay it) but more for the atmosphere and its young quirky gang of characters.

Overall, please, please, please play this game if you like good stories in your games. If you don’t then PLEASE don’t play this because I don’t want to read another really rude review for a game I absolutely adore (cough BOYFRIEND DUNGEON cough). Seriously it makes me want to smack some people, so don’t do it if you know you can’t appreciate it. Good day.

Overwatch 2: “I’m ugly and I’m proud!”

Honestly has a much more interesting, more creative and overall better open world than Pokemon Legends Arceus. It may be glitchy, but at least it’s not a snoozefest.

P.S. I’m only comparing the two because they have a similar open world type with a lot of empty space, but Calico does it better by mixing up the environment layouts and actually being pleasant to look at, unlike Arceus.

P.S.S. PUDGEMS

Very fun just wish there was more to it.

I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCCCCHHHHH
It’s so gay and the gameplay is extremely fun and it’s so cute and sailor moon inspired and it’s a slept on indie gem from this year!!! Play it!!!
P.S. 😘 to Ro and Ro only
P.S.S. Maybe possibly to Garlic too

Edit: Okay maybe just Ro but Garlic is my Bff and Emby’s so cute and FLOOFY

I’ve given this a lot of thought

Really enjoyed it but gave me the blue screen two times so I can’t really finish it (so far) :/

2020

Just feels really pretentious and I really don’t wanna do all those puzzles. Plus, the original game looks way better.

Play co-op and watch player one get 150,000+ points(!) and then get a nice 2,000.

The co-op mode is the equivalent of watching somebody take pretty much all of your dinner and then leaving you with meaningless parts of each food to eat (crumbs!). Not satisfying to be player 2 ☹️

P.S. Also crashed on my PS5 5 times in one day ☹️☹️

Edit: Beat it and now the game has crashed a total of 15 times.

Management sims are one of my favorite genres, but for some reason I didn’t have any fun with this. I read some reviews of two point hospital and I came to the conclusion that there’s not enough depth to it? You also have to wait a bit until you unlock the training rooms and research points but it still wasn’t enough. I wanted to continue playing but it felt like I was just going through the motions. It doesn’t really feel like there’s that much for you to do and it gets repetitive very quick.

The Xbox One version (and the game in general) has a lot of little glitches to it too. Every time I get my paycheck, the game freezes for 5+ seconds, sometimes it just does that when I don’t earn my paycheck. One time when I loaded it up it was pretty much happening constantly for 5 minutes. When I get my end of the year overview awards I can’t move the analog stick over to get the fleshed out review instead of the one page version. It takes almost a minute every time for me to be able to move the analog stick to the ‘next’ button. Every. Single. Time. Items also get invalidated consistently for no reason, so I have to pick them up and drop them for them to reset - this can also happen even after it let me place an item I had a feeling might cause an issue. Also, when you’re building a room for the first time, if you misplace one item that invalidates another one, you basically have to rebuild the room over, since you can’t sell/get rid of anything while in that mode, and if something is invalidated, you cannot get out of that mode without restarting the whole room over. Just a lot of quality of life issues and glitches that really hampered my already un-fun experience.

In summary, Two Point Campus felt very repetitive for me, which didn’t really stimulate my brain as much as a management sim/sim game like Let’s Build a Zoo or The Sims would. You basically learn everything you need in the first college and that’s the majority of the game already. Everything else you learn is just extra fodder and doesn’t drastically change the game. It’s just place the necessary classrooms, a bathroom & shower room, a few dormitories and then start the year and gradually add more of the same stuff & libraries, private tuition rooms and student unions for each college. I was really excited to play this game, but (personally) it doesn’t have enough of an engaging gameplay loop for me to enjoy it.

This game can be very glitchy, especially on the contracts. For example, you can painted the whole room but the game still says you have 2% left. It gets really annoying when you (stupidly) trust what the game is saying and look everywhere to find the speck of paint you missed. It wants you to do the house in a very specific order or else it’s going to glitch out and you have to exit out of the level and go back in, which can take maybe up to 5 minutes in itself in waiting time (at least on the Xbox One) to fix it. I switched off the cockroaches, yet I find myself switching it back on, so it registers that I vacuumed up all the glass, which can be very hard to see. What’s the point of that option if you have to switch it back and forth for it to actually work?

This game also got me very frustrated when it wouldn’t tell me what walls to break down! It doesn’t tell you anything about the minimap color coding, or which color it is that it wants you to break down, so I ended up breaking a lot of the house down just to find which wall it wanted (this happened to other people because it’s one of the many things the game doesn’t tell you!). Well anyway, after confusedly tearing the house down, my Xbox one controller died and I needed to get batteries, which just so happened to be in my basement. So I started walking down the stairs and I slipped. I don’t know why, but I just slipped. I I thankfully caught myself, but I still had two very scraped elbows for like a week. I blame this game for making me angry.

You would think this is a relaxing game on the surface, which it is, until it either breaks in a way which is not your fault, or doesn’t communicate something as in WHICH WALLS TO DEMOLISH AND THEN YOU FALL DOWN THE STAIRS.

I spent so much time decorating a home in a contract (a waste of time and money I now know, because doing extra work and decoration isn’t acknowledged in this game), and for some reason it was glitching out with the walls. I looked it up and apparently so many people had issues with this aunt’s house level, so much so that it had to patched, since people were having trouble with the radiator installation. It got patched, but this level is still broken for me, 3 years later, and my issue is completely different with the walls saying I didn’t demolish them, even though I did and I didn’t rebuild them after. So, I decided to exit out of the level and go back in, and when I came back it turned out I had to get rid of the majority of the decorations I now placed to 100% the level.

Part of me has a lot of fun renovating houses, but all of these stupid glitches that happen because I don’t do rooms in a specific order (seriously, the solutions people had to come up with for the aunt’s house and other levels are renovating the rooms in a very specific order- so you can 100% the level, without it breaking)!!! I also read that people think they did the bare minimum in making this game and I think I agree. They made a game where you can renovate houses, but it also has many glitches, you have to buy expensive dlc just to get more furniture (the base game should make it where you unlock more furniture as you level up!) doing anything extra after finishing the checklist of requirements is literally just a waste of money, you can’t change the roof, you can’t expand the house except by rebuilding rooms if you want more space, there’s no options for windows, no outdoor furniture whatsoever in the base game, I could (clearly) go on and on. It very likely didn’t happen this way (because making games is extremely difficult and time consuming), but it does feel like the bare minimum of effort went into this - there’s such a lack of polish to this game which really undermines all the fun aspects, which they must’ve spent so much time working on!!! Sorry this is a rant but I just got fed up with this game today when Chang Choi wouldn’t buy my home (which I specifically catered to him) because I installed a freaking toilet. He apparently liked the house less than Mr. Futuristic Bachelorpad when I installed a TOILET. I ended up having to delete decorations for him to enjoy having a toilet and a shower in his bathroom.

P.S. I guess I have a personal vendetta against this game now? My poor elbows…
