evo 2022 great event but ending @ 3:38am EST was mild insanity *spoilers for evo i guess*

no bap in between juri+bridget's trailers + twitch chat being 90% 🐬 TOTSUGEKI 🐬 for strive + having 6 hours of neph bootlegs playing in the background i was in the trenches of lust & delirium after midnight. fun weekend tho.

immediate questions:

1. McRib === david stern of FGC? a comparison of ironic praise ofc if u kno ball. but gottt DAMN mr. wizard's evo woulda never ran this long on Saturday night or sunday night. solidarity with anyone on the production team as a former producer for a digital show that shit is not easy. doubly so on commentary duty tasty steve running hot mic for tekken and then stream commentary 4 strive is cody rhodes level of workhorse. in person event quality prolly way up with the new GM but the stream monster experience was def a trial

2. did SFV just see one of the greatest loser bracket runs of all time? outcome ofc knocks it out of goat disucssion but in terms of bodies piled up and level of domination...ionno. 17 straight sets of a mixup master class is 2tuff. to my mind the shortlist of goat loser bracket runs is tokido 2017 madkof 2012(?) and luffy 2014, but id have to dig into the tapes for more.

3. latif looking bitchmade???????

4. who the fuck is project justice's chairperson? clearly a passion scene helmed by chairgtables (i think?), project justice's side tournament was my surprise hit of the weekend. watching chairgtables completely dust the competition with this oddly charismatic and low-powered chairperson character with mechanic fundamentals is how players get mythologized. deffo a scene to watch out for in the future i feel

5. how we will look back at the 'netplay era'? i mentally dropped out of the fgc p much 2 months in the pandemic so i can't speak to that #livedexperience but will we look back at top players in the 2020 and 2021 years with an or as the discovery and initialization of a New Generation of Fighters? tuff to generalize in the sweeping sense obv but even in my corner of UMVC3 the allegations are flying. care less about the * validity but more about how netplay & offline are conceived of as different spaces/modes of competition--are the things that make you a good online warrior the same things that make you a pool shark? similarly curious of what games got big/fell off in the netplay era--UNIST/UNICLR and MVCI are two games that come to mind as like on the comeup in 2019 but have completely faded from the zeitgeist. i've been love->hate on UNI and hate->love->neutral postiive on MVCI...so yea theories on The Fall Off interest me.

6. 2022 a new corner for fgc? rollback going from enthusiast talk to an industry standard + the strive experiment working + non cynical enthusiasm for kofxv, sf6, tekken 8 and others all point towards a positive trend. in addition to perpetual scenes like UMVC3 & MVC2 seeing revived engagement and dusty shit like +R and 3rd strike getting more exposure and new blood. hard 2 say whether the baptismal excitement around this weekend will last, or even lead to a good place, but SHIT man u cannot deny that its been a helluva 5 month stretch for the FGC.

7. do you think strive bridget could enter femboy HOF or is it 2 late? tough competition in the modern era ofc ofc but bridget is like the skyhook of femboys right if u kno ball u gotta respect the history. could see strive bridget doing '09-'11 tim duncan numbers just off good fundamentals and intangibles that are missed amongst the casuals but well-respected among enthusiasts.

one of my oldest online friends had a "practical joke" they played on our IRC in the mid-2000s where she'd share GGXX sprites of bridget and ask people if they found him attractive, enthusiastically yelling "TURNS OUT YOU'RE ATTRACTED TO A BOY!! LOL!!!!!!!!" every time she caught someone in her trap. she transitioned in 2015. bridget is absolutely a femboy HOFer imo

also tekken 7 finals ended at my regular bedtime of 12am and GGS finals were well underway when i woke up at 7am this morning.... slept right street fighter v!! europoors stay winning :D

as to looking back on the netplay era: i was getting really into tekken 7 as the pandemic hit and more or less dropped it completely when online became my only option, just felt like such a brutal soulless way to learn a FG.... even though we are in a (ostensible) post-pand world it feels hard to motivate myself to pick it up again because tekken stuff just isnt gonna stick to the brain long-term without regular muscle memory training and also the spectre of a potential tekken 8 looms large... tough one. hype for SF6 tho

given that Bridget refers to herself with she/her pronouns and says "I am a girl!" in her arcade mode, i respectfully suggest that bridget is not a femboy HOFer and is instead a trans girl HOFer

@letshugbro yessirski sounds right lol shit like that def a holdover of the forum era of the internet. also heard w/r/t to t7 i've heard many a stories of the pandemic->dropping T7 pipeline i think it's a necessary inclusion in that list of The Fall Off.

@Woodaba o damn catching up on the new and u rite, crazy & def adds some legacy points.
