When I was younger, I knew someone who had this game and when I would watch them play it, I remember thinking that it looked fun, but not something I really wanted. That was until I found out that you could get a Mario hat for your dog and from that point, it became a "must play" for young me.

Let me preface this review by saying the save feature on the PC version doesn't work, so if there is an "end" to this game, I couldn't reach it because I refuse to play through this game in its entirety in one sitting.

High School Musical 3: Senior Year Dance's gameplay makes the bold decision of going back to basics by using the four arrow keys and spacebar. You time your arrow key presses to the rhythm of the song and with each "Perfect," you fill up your Super Star Meter. Now, you're probably asking yourself, "What does the Super Star Meter do?" Well, prepare for possibly one of the biggest letdowns of your life. You press the spacebar to activate it to find out it's just a score multiplier. It's nothing special like its title leads you to believe. This game has twenty-nine stages and combined with its monotonous gameplay, I fear you might spontaneously combust out of sheer boredom trying to finish each stage. (I don't want to imagine what would happen if you attempt to perfect each stage.)

Another feature of this game is the ability to create your own character. Once you create a character you can use them in the stages as one of the dancers. I didn't mess around with the character creator, as I felt Zac Efron was perfectly capable. Finishing each stage above a certain point threshold awards you with new clothing for your custom character, while clearing a certain amount of stages in a set gives you a new Personality Test. I do not recall the Personality Tests granting you anything upon completion, so they're just bonuses.

If you were hoping the presentation could help raise this game's status of "bad" to "mediocre," well I've got troubling news... This game was clearly made on a small budget. The character models and sets the dances take place on are rough. The facial features of the characters look eerie. Pair that with the game's low-quality textures and it makes some areas appear unsettling. You can also unlock clips from the movie, however make sure you have some eyedrops next you before viewing these clips, because they are presented in an unnaturally low resolution. You may interpret this as a joke, but don't say I didn't warn you if you start to have painfully dry eyes while watching the bonus clips. The music, however, is fine. I didn't experience any audio issues while playing.

Whether you are casual rhythm game player or a die-hard fan of the genre, I cannot, in good conscious, recommend this game. With its rudimentary gameplay and dull presentation, you are better off saving your twenty dollars (or five if you happen to see it on sale) for another game within the genre.
