Bat Boy is basically Shovel Knight but with a baseball bat instead of the iconic shovel. You got a classic 8-bit platforming gameplay split up between stages, a plethora of abilities, bosses, optional levels and a health/stamina upgrade mechanic. Sounds cool, right?

Unfortunately, unlike Shovel Knight, Bat Boy's weaknesses show up relatively quick. There's not much incentive to use most of your abilities save for a few of them (the invincibility bubble basically makes every boss and platforming challenge trivial), the story's very so-so, uninteresting cast of characters, meta progression is boring and there's almost no side content or meaningful collectibles.

But the most glaring issue to me was how the game underutilizes its main mechanic: batting. Aside from reflecting projectiles from some enemies and into switches, that's basically all there is. For a game with such heavy emphasis on baseball, they could definitely have emphasized this aspect.

If you love Shovel Knight like me, perhaps you'll come to like Bat Boy as well for its creative level design, each filled with a different gimmick or mechanic, classic platforming gameplay and beautiful pixel graphics. But don't go expecting the same level of polish and brilliantism otherwise you'll get disappointed.

some reviews here are kinda missing the point. yes the norse gods talk like insufferable redditors because really they are like insufferable reddit moderators in their realm. I will say that the ever titular squirreljak character and his whole quest that was voiced by the obese funny youtube man was definitely pretty annoying, and not in a way i think was intended by the writers.

Oh yeah the game is good or whatever.

you KNOW it's bad when it makes assassin's creed look like a fun game.

The first Yakuza game I've played where the actual gameplay is the highlight, even on top of how good everything else is. It's such an improvement that going back to 7 sounds impossible, and even systems like Persona's will probably feel lackluster in comparison.

uma das coisas mais ridiculas de todos os tempos

Worth a play but its dated. Its hard to play in the modern age. Camera angles mess you up constantly. Gameplay is fine and lays the groundwork for ALMOST all the games after it to be good to great to fantastic.

The game moves around making your town more pretty. And we can see that philosophy is taken to our interactions with other characters who are there only for your enjoyment and self-indulgence, therefore creating a "toy" world that feels empty and soulless.

It isn't a bad game by any means, but it definitely feels a bit unfinished/boring compared to other entries. I've found myself getting a lot more out of Population Growing and New Leaf, it just feels like there's more to do in those games. Crafting is obnoxious and the game simultaneously feels too streamlined and like it's purposely trying to limit you because of that, if that makes any sense. So many systems are made much faster, but they throw in arbitrary roadblocks to make it so they're just more tedious than they used to be.

Couldn't figure this one out (I'm stupid).

I don't remember playing this game but it seems like it's good.

one of the best stories in any sonic game, ever. i enjoyed playing this game. its a buggy mess but i wouldnt say unplayable. you just need some time with you when starting this game haha..
shadows character in this game was probably the last time they nailed to portray him well. mephiles is one of the coolest sonic villains ever. people forget about all these aspects just to make fun of this game like video game essay youtuber nr. 101. try looking beyond that one kiss scene for once and maybe stop pretending this is the absolute worst state sonic has ever been in.

The problems i have with the remake are the same i have with this one, i'm just not as harsh because, well, it's not a remake that was supposed to fix the mistakes this one made and i know development was a mess.
I also can't be that mad at it because i got it by trading a shitty Naruto GBA game i had beaten like 20 times.

This one is better than the original, but it's so similar that it just makes me wish the original never existed

Sonic Advance is… fine. It sure is a Sonic game on handheld. It sure does function properly. It’s got a tiny Chao garden, which is cute. But there’s nothing particularly unique or thrilling about it. It’s just okay.

Also the Special Stages are fucking garbage.
