So glad this came out, I missed the time when licensed games were incredibly horrible and abhorrent messes.

Haunt

2012

Had potential and was a lot of fun but this game controls like garbage, the Kinect really was a mistake for most of its life.

Maybe it's the fact that my expectations were lower than low.

Maybe it's the fact that I don't play many open-world games to have high standards for them as a whole.

Or maybe it's the fact that I'm an idiot who still loves the franchise about the fast blue hedgehog in 2022.

Regardless, Sonic Frontiers was an overall good experience that brought me back to the days of playing Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut as a kid. I remember being so enamored with the idea of running through these open areas as fast as possible back then that I ended up spending most of my days roaming around Station Square and the Mystic Ruins, all while barely progressing the story. That same simple feeling never left my side while playing through Frontiers, as I just enjoyed blazing through each of the "Open Zones."

And while some of these areas are better than others (I'm looking at you, Chaos Island), I simply loved how Sonic handled in each of the varied environments. It's just a shame how the Cyber Space levels were implemented. I feel like they were the lowest point of the game for me, mainly due to how out of place and unoriginal they were. Well, that and I'm beyond tired of seeing Green Hill and Chemical Plant Zone assets everywhere.

Overall, I hope SEGA finally does what they didn't do with Generations and Mania, and that's follow up a solid foundation with an even better next game.

it's not anywhere near as bad as the rating suggests
it's not a masterpiece, but i enjoyed my time with it outside of the clunky motorcycle interludes, fuck those. the story is impressive, engaging and feels like a 80s movie in a good way. i found the shooting to be pretty good here, even better than MGS because of some re-like mechanics and because i'm a filthy casual that likes auto aim on consoles.
while not sweet, it doesn't leave a sour taste in your mouth at all - the whole vibe is just kickass. oh yeah and the puzzles have zero to none visual clues, use gamefaq if confused

The game has bad framerate issues and is kinda buggy but I still had a ton of fun with it. More fun then I've had in years of playing main line pokemon. The best pokemon game to me since gen 5. If you don't think you'll have a problem with low framerate and some bugs then pick up this game it's fun.

This is why you don't pre order games on PC folks. But other than the optimization issues the game honestly is a pretty mid survival horror and especially on the hardest difficulty a lot of the combat is just pure cheapness, it literally has jump scare damage lol, below average.

A lot to unpack here, but first I'll start of by stating I did not grind to level 100 to play the ending, Ubisoft. Fuck you.

I played a good 30 or so hours of this, all seemed fine in the realm of recent Ubisoft titles. Fully expecting most of the missions to be locked behind a grind wall in classic RPG style Ubisoft fashion but was surprised I could play them without facing that, but I was wrong. I was only level 77 by the time I reached the end and when I discovered I needed to grind to level 100 and level 150 to play the actual ending, my heart dropped and I closed the game. That's not to say I won't pick it up again, though. I have some plans to maybe play some side missions with friends in co-op and maybe tackle the ending at a later date, but I'm not dedicating more time where I could be playing a much better game to this.

Now, about grinding... I may have understated. Sure, there's no level up grinding for the most part, besides the aforementioned. However, the actual story missions themsleves are basically all grinding. The formula all in all is grinding. Go to point A, go to point B, kill enemy, collect intel, move on, talk to the next NPC. What's that? You finished the task? Oh, well, I forgot to mention, you have to do a million other things before I'll do anything for you. It's very tiring and not at all accompanied by at least a competent plot. It's incredibly generic and uneventful.

So, you may be asking, why the seemingly positive score, then? It may be a grind fest with an uninteresting plot, but I would be lying if I said the game isn't fun. I loved the gameplay, I had a lot of fun clearing outposts, customising my character with sick cosmetics and playing some co-op missions with strangers... it was the only thing that kept me going, plus the chance to see Jon fucking Bernthal in a cutscene again, the only consistently written character in the entire game. I would revisit this game with friends, the co-op has a lot of room to be thoroughly enjoyed, it's quite sandboxy.

For this alone, it's earned those three stars. I was quite surprised just at how well the gameplay was handled, Ubisoft doesn't really have a great track record with that these days.

This is a pure video game. An amazing adrenaline fueled action game. It makes me so happy smaller scale games like this can still come out. The inspirations from stuff like DOOM and even Evil Dead are super clear. It's such a fun game and I want more like it.

Best tps and looter shooter i ever played
