A strong follow on from the original Dark Souls (as of writing I haven't played 2). It increases the speed of gameplay and challenge to be a little closer to Bloodborne. This leads to some very exciting encounters, but at times felt far more punishing.

The levels are very well designed, although the world loses some of the connectivity of the original, and even Bloodborne. It follows on from the world and themes of the original in interesting ways, and has the most consistently excellent bosses in any From game I've played.

There's a lot to enjoy here, and I'm glad I played the original and then this. There's a nice continuity and finality to the world and characters it creates. I was a bit exhausted by the time I got to the Ringed City DLC, which cranks up the challenge to 11. It's a strong ending, but it is an ending. It left me satisfied but also ready to be done.
