A game that was doomed to fail on XBox given demographics, but the XBox was the only place a game like this could have existed at the time

I don't get what's so special about the game. People say this is a "deck builder" but after playing it for like two hours I can confirm there were no decks or builds. Is it exclusive to the multiplayer? I don't get what makes this game great as an Xbox game in particular, it's not like this couldn't have been done on PS2. Maybe I'm just an asshole

People saying it's a "deck builder" are misunderstanding what the game is and is trying to do based on what modern games trends / bandwagon hopping are doing. It's an arena fighter that changes having different characters with customizable movesets that can be used to counterplay other players on the fly that basically is a match where matchups change on the fly, looking at a more limited scope of a "deck builder" because there happens to be a deck misses the point entirely. The ease of internet access with the XBox, as well as its processing power making slowdown a non-existent issue where it would definitely happen on the PS2, was also a "right game at the right place at the right time" and shows that Japanese devs arguably had a better understanding of what the XBox was capable of more than the vast majority of Western devs just doing multi-platform port jobs were doing.

@slibslime sorry, didn't see your response until now. Yeah, I get it. I also wanted to add to what I was saying by mentioning that I turned the game on a few days ago on accident when I was trying to select another game but I decided I might as well play it a bit. And, according to the game, I have played it for nearly six hours. Despite that though I didn't feel any sense of progression or any accomplishment at all. I looked up the part where the boss I got stuck on is and it looks like I was well into the back half of the game, yet it was still fucking boring. I was hoping that the single player would prepare me and hype me up to play with other people but honestly I don't want to play the game at all now.

@HylianBran, I didn’t @ you so that’s on me. I completely get where you’re coming from, as this was / still is highly focused on multiplayer, meaning if you do not have the means to play this with at least three people the charm is gone. It’s a double edged sword that is common with many games like this, but I’m not surprised one could lose interest so fast.
