Despite never quite beating it, I still think this game deserves a good ranking. The shmup gameplay is great, but what really elevates it is a deep shop/upgrade system and an absurdly joyful soundtrack. Stressful, odd, engaging, and...kind of funny!

Great version of a classic. The difficulty spike in the last 3 stages and the final bosses' last second bullshit that only has one specific counter give me conniptions, but beating it WITHOUT relying on any of the fancy difficulty lowering features in this version (save states, more lives, coin bank, etc) felt good.

Though I too wonder if it was all worth it, Opa-Opa...

Only complaint about this version is that there's not an option that makes the screen bigger without stretching to widescreen, because that looks like shit but the default is a bit small and has black borders on top and bottom.
