Castlevania Chronicles II: Simon's Quest

released on Jan 21, 2023

A fanmade remake of Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest is offering a whole new way to play the most infamous entry in Konami's classic vampire-hunting series. Back in 1995, Konami released Castlevania Chronicles on PS1, which remade and remixed the original Castlevania for then-modern standards. Now, in 2023, the fan studio WarMachine has released Castlevania Chronicles 2: Simon's Quest, which takes the same approach for the divisive NES sequel. This remake takes the bones of Simon's Quest to craft a whole new game. You still explore an open-ended overworld, get hints from NPCs, and explore dungeon-style mansions to acquire key items. But the world has been remixed, the mansions have been completely revamped, and the old currency system has been completely revamped.

It is definitely playable but the bosses were not enjoyable. Firstly the 2nd to last boss is actually broken in the latest version had to play on an old one. All but the last 2 bosses are tedious and don't feel right. Timing feels off hit box's are sometimes to big and most importantly just aren't fun.

I DESPRETLY wanted to like this one, but unfortunately, it has a lot of issues which fan games tend to have.
It's unpolished, the level design is too vast and boring, bosses are WAY too spongey with overly long I-frames.
Still, a solid effort

the mad men actually made the game good i respect it

Found out about this one from my friend and I was pretty excited to jump into it. The amount of passion and love for the franchise that went into making this was great. Great music and visuals with an upgrade to the gameplay and giving you a slide to help maneuver around the enemies and bosses. The boss fights were pretty good if you did not have to wait 5-10 seconds after every single hit you do which kinda threw me off to the usual Castlevania games. I started to adapt to it until I got to Death and Dracula and even with the sub-weapon took me a good 25-30 minutes each. Unbeknownst to myself and this being my first blind playthrough to any version of Simon's quest I did not know there is a "best weapon in the game" type of whip you have to acquire. I explored all areas multiple times thinking I collected everything and headed into the final boss fight without said weapon. Unfortunately, once you hit the checkpoint down there it is a no-return thing and you can't really go back. I learned that the hard way when my weapon literally did not damage the final form of the boss at all which ended my playthrough sadly and did not get to finish this one. Maybe some other time I guess lol I love me some Castlevania and this remake was pretty damn good. Too bad I did not know this would happen beforehand fuuuuuuuck.
