Dauntless takes place in a fantasy setting, where a cataclysmic event has torn the world apart, releasing monster-like Behemoths that prey on the surviving humans. Players take on the role of Slayers to take down Behemoths, collecting loot that they used to craft and upgrade weapons and equipment as to take down larger and more powerful Behemoths.

It’s probably just a really worse version of Monster Hunter. I wouldn’t know though.
And by the way the upgrading mechanics is really bad and hard to follow. Same with everything else in the hub. Probably because it’s a Live Service game.

Dauntless was a kind of guilty pleasure game to play when I was alone and didn’t feel like playing a story game. Unfortunately, over the years I came to realize that the game was going in a bad direction and basically dropped it without a second thought

As a MH fan, I was interested. They had something going at first, then I came back to it after some updates and they changed a lot (not for the best). Probably won't touch this again.
