I'm convinced no one has ever beaten this (I most certainly havent)

Each character has unique abilities to pass obstacles. It is only possible to change characters in a few radios scattered throughout the stage. The problem is that it goes back and forth just to make it look like the game is bigger than it is.

I liked the game back in the day but even back then it left me unimpressed.

Recently revisited the film with friends so was interested in checking out the GBA game tying in with the movie release. The game is a feeble platformer and is sadly terrible.

The story is told through sparse static screens and it would be impossible to follow what is happening if you haven't seen the movie. The presentation is generally lackluster with a significant lack of creativity in its art direction.

Milo is one of the most frustrating characters I've controlled in a while. His animations are actually pretty good but I think only add to the problem. Sure, the film character definitely seems a bit clumsy, but I can't tell you how many times this guy slipped off platforms to certain death. Getting a grasp at how this guy controls takes a while and it never feels good.

The levels are extremely short but prove challenging thanks to the horrible platforming. Extra lives are few and far between and your lives will stay at the number you completed the last level with when you go to continue. The game often asks for a decent amount of precision from the player so several levels took me a large number of tries.

Gameplay involves some trial-and-error with occasionally platforms crumbling beneath your feet or rubble falling from the ceiling with little time to react. They tried to give the levels some variety. One has you running around trying to fix parts of the submarine before the ship blows, and another has you traversing a subterranean maze. None of it is fun.

I sort of liked the boss battle near the end of the game. Frustrating as it was, there was some tension to this level as I tried to outrun my enemy and saw away at a chain as much as I could before he caught up to me. However, the final level of the game was just too frustrating for me to put up with, having to make blind guesses where platforms might be below you and traverse back and forth across a large area to find items scattered through the environment and take them to their designated spots. The design here was horrendous and finally I decided just to shelve the game.

I recommend Atlantis to no one. This is one of the worst movie tie-ins I've played and it's clear it was put together at the last moment as a cheap cash grab.

Rented it once as a kid and picked it up again to actually finish it. Not great, sadly. Visually it was pretty nice and some of the environments were neat, but it's very much a one and done.
