For what it is, it's a pretty good little indie fighting game.

Since this game was included in the ps plus catalog I was curious and wanted to play it for a while, but I just didn't get to do it (I had backlogged it heh). Fast forward to now and it's leaving ps plus in a week, so thanks to fomo I finally got the motivation to try it out, and... yeah I had fun!

It's a very "classic" fighting game, as in there's nothing to do except online vs, cpu vs and practice mode.
The actual fighting is good; it feels that there's room for player expression and both offensive and defensive playstyles can be viable. The combo system is fun; chaining super moves is always great in every game that it's included. The performance is great, and it should be, I mean the graphics aren't anything crazy. (they are quite bad honestly... looks like a ps2-ps3 game)

I expected to dislike the gougi system. I had flashbacks of Street Fighter x Tekken initially, but it really is the gem system actually implemented well. There's no customization (as in picking individual effects), you just pick your deck that compliments your playstyle, and with different decks you get different gameplans, even if you pick the same character.
I mained Darun and if I picked Juggernaut the super armor made landing throws easy, but I could also pick Grab Master and make my command grabs have increased damage and range.

Speaking of Darun, I had a lot of fun destroying people online with him lmao. Online works great and I didn't have trouble finding matches, probably because people like me rushing to complete the game before it leaves the subscription. I don't know if it has rollback but most matches worked great. The furthest person that I got matched up with was from Russia, and even if it was noticeable laggy it wasn't unplayable.

Oh there's also a simplified control option that eliminates "complex" motion inputs, like quarter circle forward and the like. This makes characters like Darun waaaay stronger since you don't have to do the 360 motion to get your big grabs. It's a great accessibility tool, but it won't really help new players without fighting game fundamentals.

Overall, it's a good game but it's only for fighting game fans, and even then there are better games to play if you are one. I, for sure, wouldn't pay $40 to play this.
There's also the nostalgia factor for some people, but I don't have any, as I haven't played any of the Street Fighter EX games or Fighting Layer. Maybe now I'll get to that since I liked that gameplay of EX Layer.
