I played this game as a child, even though I never managed to complete it—either it was surprisingly difficult for a 6 years old, or I wasn't a very bright child, who knows . Feeling nostalgic, I recently replayed the game and finally united all ham-hams. I cried.

Honestly a really valiant effort at making a game for a franchise that's hard to adapt. It's quaint, the ham-chat system is a satisfying yet simple interaction tool-set, and the sprite work is to die for. It's a refreshingly twee experience worth playing between larger experiences.

As a big ass Humongous Entertainment fan back in the day, I see the appeal in this sort game, and its incredibly engaging for what it is.

However confusing me to the point of having to look up answers in an adventure game to beat it is half a star off. Putt Putt would never do this to me.

This game is juuuuuust adorable.

I begged for this game when I was just a little scamp, and when I got my hands on it I played it to bits.

Its an adorable little Hamtaro game. Simple as that. You're collecting Ham-Hams and solving little puzzles to unite them all to your base, I think. The animations and bg look really good for the Game Boy Color.

The music is also very good. Earworms for sure.

Its pretty simple and sweet, so don't expect a whole lot of depth, but I'd say this game would be really good for young little gamers. Hamha!

A charming little adventure game. The mechanic of collecting words instead of items to solve puzzles is honestly pretty clever. I wish there was a little more nuance to the puzzles, but I can’t really fault a kid’s game for being too simple. The game also has a bit of the stink of early adventure game jank, where you kinda just need to go up to every NPC and do every verb to them to progress. The slight jankiness aside, the presentation is really cute, and having bespoke animations for each of the 85 Hamchat words is honestly pretty impressive. Overall, there are definitely worse ways to spend an afternoon

Prepare to be shocked, because Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite! is truly one of the best Game Boy Color games I have ever played. This charming and delightful game never fails to bring a smile to my face. Exploring maps in search of the missing hams and learning new words that unlock more possibilities is incredibly fun. Without a doubt, this game is a hidden gem within the Game Boy Color library and an absolute must-play.
