J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings: Volume One is an ambitious RPG on the SNES, but it ultimately falls a bit flat. The rotoscoped animations were groundbreaking for the time, and the game tries to stay faithful to Tolkien's world. Unfortunately, the gameplay is clunky and repetitive, with most of your time spent on boring fetch quests. There's a flicker of potential here, especially for die-hard LOTR fans, but most players will find it a slog.

Plays like ass, but the music goes obscenely hard.

Not a very deep experience considering the source material. A barely there RPG where the levelling up and weapon/armour upgrades are all automatic. All you have to do is explore and solve the occasional puzzle. The enemies are always respawning, the mazes cruel, and the final boss an absolute unfair nightmare. No Boromir in your party on this adventure, presumably not enough game memory available, so he stays in Rivendell polishing his horn, but then they did see fit to include that one Tolkien plot essential... the Wizard Drexle?
