For when you need phones and scones in the same shop.

There's something satisfying about running your own store. Other games have done this, but king of retail doesn't involve other gimmicks like dungeons or item hunting or other silly minigame managements.
You buy items, you buy shelves, stock them or hire staff, and watch the flow of customers. After a day you can see the statistic graph and buy more items, and they even go as far as to determine what type of customer likes what type of items.
Besides running your own store, there's a mode to start or fix other businesses within certain limits. Honestly it's simple but complex enough to be great at what it does, like letting you decorate the store however you'd like even with custom art signs.

I can sit here and complain about how unhuman-like the characters are, how badly this recreates a retail store, and how a long, narrow, completely pitch black hallway is somehow the ideal break room for my employees but like I played it for almost 5 hours straight so I can at least say I enjoyed it

Weirdly physical in a way that's almost compelling. The creator's clearly only heard of humans secondhand so all the "convince people to come visit your shop" scenes are deeply strange. The only game that lets you create a hybrid women's clothing, canned goods and mobile phone store.
