'KonoSuba - Attack of the Destroyer' is one of my new favorite shmups. This game has kept me coming back again and again and again. Sadly, the only way to actually play this game now is to hack your Vita. It's a standalone application, despite being bundled in with another game; you do NOT need that other game to play this title. Also, there is a fan-made English patch available, though many things in this game are already in English.

There are initially 4 playable characters, which will soon expand to 6 after your first run, and then to technically 8, as you can also unlock alternate forms of Kazuma and Megumin, dubbed "Kazuma-san" and "Megumin!!" respectively. Each character handles differently from one another (even Kazuma-san and Megumin!!) making every playthrough a treat. I will say, Megumin and Chris were certainly my favorites to play as.

There are only six (rather short) stages, each one with a boss at the end and four difficulties: Easy, Normal, Hard, and Death. On Normal mode, the game is pretty easy already if you're accustomed to shmups/bullet hell games. In addition, there is also a separate "Caravan Mode" - a score attack mode where you rack up as many points as you possibly can in just two minutes without being able to buy any items from Wiz.

There are special options in the Game Config menu that will allow you to make Darkness play like "Trash", as well as choose for Wiz's stock in her item shop to also be "Trash," both things being a sort of running gag in the series. If you select "Trash" for Darkness, when you start a game as her, she is unable to hit any enemies; I'm uncertain whether or not it's possible to beat the game like this. Likewise, choosing to make Wiz's Item Shop stock "Trash" will have her selling you figurines of all the enemies you encounter, though buying them does absolutely nothing; they're just there for you to waste your Gold on.

For what this game is, being just a short little mini-game that was just a pack-in download code, it's absolutely excellent, going above and beyond what most others would probably do for something like this. Platine Dispositif really knocked this out of the park, and I'm certainly going to check out their Gundemonium games now after having played this.

If you own a hacked Vita and enjoy shmups, you OWE it to yourself to give this a play.
