Madden 12 is usually remembered as PS3/360 game, but it was also the last Madden game for PS2.

In some ways, this makes it a candidate for the best PS2 Madden. It has all the modes and gameplay features from previous games and a few new animations not found in the "prime" PS2 Madden games.

Another feature that separates Madden 12 from some of the more popular PS2 entries is SuperSim (originally introduced in Madden 09), which allows the player to sim and skip ahead during any part of the game. Don't want to play defense? No problem. Want to skip to the 4th quarter? Go right ahead. The SuperSim AI isn't perfect, but it is a very helpful feature for those who want to play a Franchise mode without playing every down. Unfortunately, the option is disabled for playoff games.

The only place the game really falters is the presentation. Being the last PS2 Madden, the menus and in-game overlays are very generic and phoned in. It's a disappointment considering how well the rest of the game holds up.

Madden 12 on PS2 reviewed poorly at the time because it was little more than a roster update, but if you are looking to go back and play a PS2 era Madden game today, this is a decent choice.
