A Japan-exclusive Battle Network game that serves as a NetNavi simulator. Rockman.EXE 4.5 is a spin-off of the Mega Man Battle Network series. It is a simulation game where NetNavis are controlled by the AI, with the players "slotting-in" BattleChips and issuing commands. It was made to be used with the BattleChip toys and BattleChip Gate accessory, which was almost certainly the cause of the title's Japan-exclusivity. The accessories are not required, but without them the game becomes much more difficult. The game features MegaMan.EXE, the twelve Navis that contribute DoubleSouls in Mega Man Battle Network 4, and other miscellaneous Navis. Several of the Navis in the latter category would later become playable in Battle Network 5 and 6. On the PET screen, the background music is a remix of the chosen Navi's Classic series stage theme (if applicable).

Fun game! To get the authentic experience, you have to scour online japanese marketplaces for a battle chip gate and give some guy $1000+ USD for his entire battle chip collection. It's just like the games where you have to spend thousands and thousands of zenny for battle chips! Life imitates art.

Playing this after years of dreaming about it getting fan translated made me feel like patchy the pirate after watching the lost spongebob episode

So much potential in a concept like this. A roguelike where you choose a NetNavi to control. Online functionality, every boss, tons of content. This game is not that. There is a reason this game doesn't give you full control of your Navi but it still isn't as fun (though it often it results in fights being easier). A BN game boiled down to the internet portion with the tried and true time wasters. It's a more shallow experience down to the surprising similarities it shares with mobile games.

Honestly pretty dope with the patch to bring back the vanilla Battle Network gameplay. Shoutout to Bass.EXE

Played with the character control patch and used a code that unlocked all the Navis at the start to make the game more fun. I played as StarMan.EXE and had a blast. Then I learned that in order to get the credits, you have to complete the Official Tournament with EVERY Navi in the first two rows. As such, I've considered beating it with just StarMan.EXE to be "Finished" for now, and will reserve completing it with every other Navi to be "Mastered."

For whatever reason, I decided it would be a good idea for this to be my first Battle Network game, and quite frankly, I don't regret that decision. I enjoyed a grand majority of it.
