The race courses are charming and nicely realised, but there's not much else to recommend here. It's openly a multiplayer focused game (it doesnt have a career mode or anything like that) and yet the standard racing mode is bafflingly single-player only... I don't know how many of the poor design choices here have been inherited from the original 90s Micro Machines games, but inherited or not some of the problems here are inexcusable.

I played a fair bit of the 'elimination' mode with a friend, but honestly its basically unplayable. The gimmick is you all share a camera view and if you leave the visible playing area, you're eliminated. The camera is top-down and quite painfully close to the action and it is /impossible/ to guess which way the track is going to turn in more than a second's time; combine this with the floaty unresponsive steering and it all adds up to a thoroughly joyless experience.

Also they got rid of the ice-cream truck from the original. Unforgiveable; not even the voiceovers by Brian Blessed of all people can make up for that.
