There are three main game types. The first two are single race and tournament and the last is a knockout race. The six tracks are called Mediterranean, Mystic Peaks, Proving Grounds, Outback, North Country, and Pacific Spirit.

This is my first ever video game. I remember being 4 or 5 years old when my older brother came home with a copy of this game and he installed the game on our computer. I used to play this game every hour of the day when I was home. unfortunately I can access to this game to play it one more time, but I'm pretty sure 5 years old me would give this game a 5/5 and that's what I did.

The best racing game of my childhood. I played the heck out of this one. The tracks are unique and fun. The cars are interesting too. Most of the times I picked McLaren F1 or Ferrari F50 or Ford GT90 or THE DINOSAUR (of course). The cheatcodes were also very fun which I miss in todays game. Also, it had a split screen multiplayer which you won't find in modern NFS games. It's a shame because I used to enjoy the game mostly because of the local multiplayer functionality.

I played the SE version which has a few more cars and tracks I believe. The game is a very arcade-y racing game. Even though you can select modes and I selected the simulation mode, it still feels very arcade like. The cars are interesting as most of these are exotic concept cars and the tracks are very fun. The best thing about this game is probably the thematic tracks in different locations around the world.
The things that I hate about the game are: first it is very difficult to beat the knockout race. I've been trying for a week now, maybe it's been years since I played a racing game or used a controller (oh yeah, my patched version seems to work with an Xbox 360 controller). I did everything from driving manual and using braking/engine braking properly and following racing lines but still couldn't beat the game. The soundtrack is a bit arcade like 90's heavy metal with world music influences based on the track (though Mystic peaks sound track absolutely slaps).
In the end this was a really fun game to play, since this is abandonware I found a repack version with all the patches pre applied (Magipack). Finally, this is a nostalgic game for most people, I don't think it's worth playing in this era, you should just play it for the memories.

First game I ever played. Spent hundreds of hours racing with the McLaren F1 and trying out different cheat codes and exploring hidden parts/shortcuts in different maps. Game had a fantastic soundtrack and really cool video showcases of the cars that were available to race with.

An improvement over the first game although still a rather lacklustre entry to the series. The stars of the show are the tracks that boast very nice theming and layouts. If only the driving itself was up to par. It ranges from fine if you choose a really good car to poor with a bad one. The physics engine seems to actively try to sabotage everyone at all times with it going wild every time two objects touch. It can be mildly amusing when it happens to the AI and you see big pileups, but most of the time it's just frustrating. I do think that this would lead to a very fun multiplayer experience though. Especially the Knockout mode which was rather fun.
